I was in Prague on Saturday. I started drinking this at 11:30AM. They call it rum. It's made from potatoes. It gets you drunk. That is all.

Being a weirdo of Dutch heritage, I have to rep for the liquor of my homeland: genever. Aka, The First Gin.

That said, I may be slightly swayed by the fact that I don't really know how to properly pronounce "bols" in Dutch, so I pronounce it "BALLS!" And who wouldn't like some balls liquor?

For liquor, I typically stick to a few things: scotch, Irish Whiskey, and the occasional bourbon and gin. Seriously, if you haven't tried it, check out New Amsterdam gin. Their flavoring skews heavily towards the orange peel side and is much less on the juniper end of things. It's good enough to drink neat.

But I just recently started to get into mid-grade (and higher) tequila, which is something I thought would never happen. A good reposado or anejo is kind of the Mexican version of scotch or Irish whiskey: it's aged in barrels, so you get that oaky, smokey, sort of vanilla-caramel thing going on. I'm still figuring out which brands I like (and can afford).

I'm a big fan of scotch and bourbon, but generally I'm a cheapskate so I don't buy spirits, and when I'm in the mood I'll just get the cheapest bourbon I can find, but my dad likes good whiskey so when I'm up there sometimes I'll drink some Lagavulin, which is like mouth heaven, seriously. Got a small bottle of Glenfiddich 18 year single malt I got for my birthday sitting around waiting until I feel fancy enough to drink it.#

I also like rum, sailor jerry in particular is delicious, but I don't drink it that often.

What have you found that you like, brand-wise thus far? I've been wanting to get into good tequilas for a while, but haven't really figured out where to start...

Agave artesenal, no specific brand but its great, about 40 dollars a bottle depending on what you get.

#1 thing is to make sure it says "100% de Agave" on the label. If it doesn't, don't get it.

I like Don Julio and Tres Generaciones. I'm about to try some Espolon and I hear Hornitos is actually quite good.

Everybody I've talked to that is a tequila snob has said that both Cuervo and Patron are total trash. I haven't had Cuervo since high school, and I've never had Patron. But I'll take their word for it.

It's amazing how even low-mid grade Tequila goes from tasting like butt to yummy with just a dash of lime.

Hoping I can do one more round of spiced rum + apple cider before it's gone for the season. Absolutely delicious.
Also recently had American Honey fir the first time, surprisingly good straight.

I prefer something called "Gurktaler"- It's a local brand and tastes a little bit like Jägermeister.. but better.. and it's made right around the corner so it's cheap as water
Hey- they even have an english website!

Tres Generaciones is awesome!

Patron is not trash, but it's not worth it's price. Same with Cabo Wabo.
