hey man, I been getting into modular synth a lot more. this IC could be good for a module. just a thought that you might want to offer it as a PCB + IC for a synth module. people will buy them and build them into every format. I could sell kits myself but you know more about the datasheet and you deserve to make the money yourself for your hard work. I mention it because I know selling more IC's is a good thing. you may sell more on muffwiggler than you will on ilovefuzz believe it or not.

hey man,
ya i realized both from feedback and my own thinking that a kit would be much better then just a chip. im pretty fast at turning out pcbs these days so probably this will happen. school is sort of simmering down for the next few weeks so probably i should get on it asap before exams. I am working on the assembling a few of two other designs at the moment but probably this will still happen.

I'm pretty good at doing panels that can be ordered through front panel express. this makes it easy for the end user to purchase a panel from a 3rd party and the panel gets made on demand. one less thing you have to worry about. one more good thing for potential buyers. for modular use, you should make it so it fits in a eurorack module with PCB mount parts and PCB mounting parallel to the panel. if it fits euro, it will fit ALL other modular formats. euro is the most popular. you could sell 20 kits just like that. other formats fly all the wires and use PCB mounting brackets. the first module I got was a euro kit with no panel that I built in a 5.25x8.75inch panel from front panel express. just start a thread in DIY at muffwiggler.com with the title "bit crusher PCB's first run" or something. I don't how difficult it will be to get the PCB mount panel components all worked out with no CAD. the power and physical dimensions are documented here http://www.doepfer.de/DIY/a100_diy.htm
the DIY forum has lots of threads where people talk part numbers, mounting height etc..if you do it right you could make some good money. the guitar version should be on a simpler smaller PCB that is not voltage controlled.

ok thanks for all the info.
voiltage controlled vs not makes no difference since pot/expression pedal can readily be appended to feed any voltage controlled input. that was more the idea. if i made pcb probably i would put some lfo circuits on it and i would only want to make 1 version. Maybe just simple 555 or PLL Vcos to avoid smd if its meant to be a kit. and further probably make it stereo since the pics are about 1.20 a piece. how much you populate is up to you. if your going through the trouble of making a pcb you might as well make it pimping.

That works out fine for me since I fly all my wires in my diy modules. Im on 15v so i guess i need a 5v regulator for the pic right? I can handle the attenuation and make up gain on a daughter board.

Yes well you could overcome this problem seamlessly without even having to worry.
Run everything on the 5v regulator until the final output stage. Run the last output stage off of V+ which coudl be either 9volts or 15 volts or as high as you want as long as the opa is built for that high a voltage, which is not uncommon at all. put a gain knob on that stage adn away you go. or simply hardwire a gain which is the inverse of the attenuation you applied pre pic.
But hey 15vpp signal is quite large. Is it common to have the audio so huge in modular synths? I built a soundlab, despite it running of +-9volts the output audio signals are more like 1 volt pp or less. BUt thats really my only experience with that stuff.

Every module is designed to take and output a 10vpp signal. Usually the posative only control voltages like envelopes or note pitch are 0 to +5v. Thats why the power rails are always 12 or 15v bipolar. It gives your opamps some headroom. Many people have blown nice speakers hooking up the first modular. Euro rack, as-in doepfer, is 12v bipolar power but all the signals are within 5vpp. Thats a bit more reasonable but still needs %90 attenuation.
