anyone skate?

Post by Fuzzy Fred »

i'm thinking about picking up a skateboard.

i had one for a while as a kid, but never really got into it. For whatever reason, I really wanna skateboard

Any advice as to what to look for in a board? And no, I don't plan on doing crazy shit on one, just go around and something to randomly do

If you're looking for A-B mobility, look into a longboard.

All the cool kids ride longboards.
And by cool kids I mean people who have actually fallen off of one.

If you're just going from point A to B, then big softer wheels would be helpful. I forgot what skate shop site I was on, but I wanted to get back into riding and they had videos like 'what wheels to choose' 'what board size' etc. and had great general advice. Might've been CCS, but I'm not positive.

This. I really don't understand long boards. I'd just get a more retro shaped board. The worst part is I've seen many trying to do tricks on them at college and fail horribly. My friends and I always yell "get a real skateboard."

Long boards go way faster and actually, brah.

Now leave me alone. I need to smoke a bowl, drink a Natty Ice and listen to Sublime's greatest hits.

not so much a-b mobility, but just something to do when im stuck at campus and really bored

don't like longboards, i guess i'll go to a local shop and just play the n00b role then and look at them all glossy wide eyed and ask what their advice would be. it would just be riding around for fun, nothing like for actual mobility reasons, just because i don't think i've broken enough bones in my body yet really

Wait, actually I meant longboards are cool, but the people using them as a fashion accessory are not.
I really can't fit on the average-sized skateboard.

There is a dude on campus that rides a ripstick, and is always ten minutes late to class.

Fun fact:

If you ever want to teach your kid to snowboard, buy them a ripstick. The motions are exactly the same, and every single kid I've seen who's taken to snowboarding like a fish to water has a proud parent with a ripstick standing behind them.

Other fun fact:

If you ever want to teach your kid to do anything, buy a stick (or make one). The motions are easy, and every single kid I've seen who's been able to do anything has a proud parent with a stick standing behind them, ready to strike.
