They cannot stop chugging until one of the defensive players recovers the ping pong ball from wherever it bounced off to (our favorite arena was a crowded attic of a garage), hold it in their hand, place it on the table (while still holding onto it) and yell "stop!"
After the initial crack of the beer, chugging is simple, as you just have to grab the can. You have to use the time that the other team is searching for the ball to crack it open.
The goal of the game is to finish your team's beers (if one teammate is consuming at a higher rate, that team shares the remaining beer).
