Both my white and green Vs are tuned bari, difference is second string on the white one is g and on the green one it's f#
The thang Mark II is a fretless BassVI..
My acoustic guitar is tuned bari too, but it is also setup to be played like a dobro/lap steel.

I find chords work better in short scale basses in general... BassVI even more due to their guitar pickups.

i've been really interested in going the Bass VI route. my hands are too small and wimpy to deal with a real bass and i dig how these look. the option i might go for is hunting down either a Teisco TB-64 or TG-64. anybody have any experience with them?

If you get enough tension on the strings chords will sound good.
In E, my strings are a little too loose and chords get sloppy but in G they sound fine.
I'm sure with a proper setup you could tune how ever you wanted.
Amp and Pickups also have a lot to do with the VI sounding more like a Bass or Guitar.

I've never tried the Teiscos but if you have trouble finding one, the Mudfuzz VI can be put together pretty cheap and without too much hassle.

i saw some pics and they look really great but i'm worried about a neck not fitting the squier body. how's that all work out?

Neck will be a little big and you will have to do a little fitting. Compensated/angled saddles are a must to me. but really any 24 fret 30" scale neck will work out on a normal 21 fret 25.5 scale guitar, with a little tweaking.

Sucks they broke up, but the Crown Fire album is bliss, then as a bonus you get Eugene Robinson at the end. I should get around to checking out their new projects.

I'm a professional woodworker, for me the actual modding/assembly took all of 45 min, wiring it and fitting all those controls in it took the most time for me

As for buying one. As I said above I haz a Dano U2 Bari from the late 90's, I love the thing! You can tune them either bari or bass VI, also if you can find a Dano Hodad Bari those are dreamy

same here, my idea scale is somewhere between 32" and 28". so i've been on a quest of looking for shortscale basses that aren't single pickup or birdsong's price range.

basically i want a 5-string high strung 24 fret jazz bass :I
