It's the 21st century visual art is the most subjective arena. You can do anything and call it art. You could take someone else's painting from 200 years ago, not make any changes, and call it your own and it would be post-post-modern gold.

Photography is easy, black and white/sepia of urban decay at obtuse angles. Art is easy, just very, very hard to "sell."
As one who is very much for digital propagation of music yet a huge fans of classic rock bands whose art was integral to their music, I can respect it yet feel like it's time has passed and think it needs to partially find a new means of distribution(art I'm talking about, but music applies too).

I was mainly talking about paintings/drawings. For the artist they may not have been difficult but they are unique and IMO beautiful so I end up spending way too much $ on them and horde it. In fact most of the art that I own that is worth anything is in storage right now. I was not comfortable shipping it out to hawaii. 5 more months.

As somebody that is both a graphic designer and a dude that works in a vinyl pressing factory, band dudes are the worst clients of all time... I love working for major labels as they can at least get their stuff together on time to my deadlines. Small time guys... well it's fun but I dunno
It's like, because it's music and art I am supposed to excuse the lack of professionalism on there part yet if I am slightly less than on time I am the biggest ass on the planet. That's the worst thing too, cheap work because it's music or the assumption that it's ok to only pay half if you're not happy with the work. It seems like graphic design takes that a lot because you're dealing with intellectual property.
Right now I'm designing something for a guy and keeping to timeframes but he is being mega mega vague. I need something to go with. I find that a lot. Musicians will give me the cd to listen to and expect me to have this revolutionary experience but most of the time it's just like uh ok its kinda cool. Most designers I know experience the same thing. It's so awesome when we have friends bands who are just like do whatever man I respect your skills but a lot of the time I do that for people and then get pushed back through various revisions into basically doing the same shit as always, just somehow originalish in a minor way. Also skulls
I think what most people don't want to accept is that I'm pretty sure the vinyl guy doesn't wanna ruin your launch on purpose. Like 3 times out of ten though when I'm making vinyl that's gonna happen. You should definitely never even start organising a launch unless you have the release in your hands. You can sit on a box of cds or records for a couple weeks no problem but if my plates break or I get sent the wrong files (which happens heaps) then stuff gets set back. Missing my deadline with my printers means your release gets set back a week and there's nothing I can do about it. That sets everyone else back a day and it just roles...
Seems like you had a bad experience with that guy (and your screen prints are waaaaayyyy better than his stuff fyi) just ranting
I wasn't sure either...but I nuked him anyway! People who take the time to make a spammy sig without really posting always set off an alarm in my head.
If you are a real person please PM me and make us some free business cards/billboards!
