Done a few of these recently myself, been using silicon/germ clipping options rather than silicon/led though. Really digging the rat with germ clipping!
I really like the look of those new hammond cases too, anyone point me to the model number?

I do but I'm in Ireland so shipping may be heavy, the germ clipping will sound similar to the youdirtyrat but the youdirtyrat doesn't use the LM308 chip doesn't sound quite as good imo.
I'll post pics of one of mine once I finish the one on my bench.

I can build you a rat with germ clipping. stupiddreams88 does sell and trade his boxes BTW. I dont know how busy he is right now but my wait time is as low as its gonna get at the moment. I have some repairs and custom jobs that are all waiting on customers or shipping so I'm kinda in limbo.

Rat + Germ = plague so good.
Really love germ diodes or asymmetrical Ge/Si in a feedback loop with the Rat circuit.
Sounds like something new under the sun to me--so fuzzy and whooshy with lots of good foldover cannibalization of the note attack, but none of the tubby bass that you normally need to assimilate to enjoy the chewy phase-fizz goodness of a Germ fuzz."In a moment of unparalleled genius, Noel Parachute headed off this potential disaster by unplugging the microphone."

Dag--that's a beautiful lineup!
On another note--can I pick your brain a lil' on transistor choice for the FY2 circuit? You seem to be a real Jedi master of that segment of the Fuzz Force. If'n its ok, I'll PM ya later.

I would say just shoot from anything in the 200-300 hfe range. Try some BC108, 109's. I would say use a 25k pot for the fuzz control and do the scoop mod with a 5k pot. The 25k pot gives a great range throughout the rotation. When you turn it up it adds the buzz and sizzle. The 5k scoop pot let's you dial the mids back in. I've built shitty sounding versions and great ones. Different types of caps in the fuzz section provide different flavors. Experiment, it's a cool fuzz....

eatyourguitar wrote:well the problem here is that the bass has a preamp in it that is negative ground. the pedal is positive ground. there are all sorts of weird things that can happen. in a perfect world, one is operating at +9v and 0 while the other operates at 0 and -9v. but the magic is where one battery (or power supply) overpowers the other one or if one of the circuits makes dirty power for the other. any dirty power here means oscillation coming right through the DC blocking cap and you can hear it. putting a 100uf electrolytic cap across the power rails in the fuzz pedal should bleed these oscillations back to ground before they enter the fuzz pedal. electrolytic caps only work one way so always put the negative stripe on the negative or black. no guarantee that it will solve the problem. another option is to use a special cable that you can make yourself or use a plastic jack on the input of the fuzz pedal with a dc blocking cap somewhere on the ground. it might just be easier and more complete to put the battery back in the pedal. totally up to you if you want to spend time mucking about to see what works.
So I tried a few things and am beyond frustrated with this pedal. Would anyone here be willing to look at it for me? I feel like I'm going to fuck it up if I keep messing with it.

Re: Let's see your finished DIY projects!
can you just put the battery back in it and call it a day? unfortunately I could not test it with your gear so it would be difficult for me to send it back to you still not knowing if its gonna work right when you get it. if you want me to put a charge pump in it I can do that. a charge pump is another pcb you add to the pedal to completely isolate the power or reverse polarity safely. if it fits in the pedal, I can do it. if I were you, I would try the power filtering cap to see if thats all you need. a 100uf electrolytic cap with the stripe to the black wire, the other side of the cap goes to red. the cap is sooooo cheap you should try it.

I think I could put the battery clip back in, but here's the problem. I really wanted it to have a adapter. Is there any way to get this to work right?
I looked up the Charge Pump thing. Do you think that would work? I'm not sure if there is enough room in there or not...
Also, where can I order the cap from? I might PM you if you don't mind. Dunno if I'm clogging this thread up with my questions. lol
