I'd say it probably has a lot to do with amps and production.
A TAFM could get you close and with it's clean blend what ever you put in front of it can come through a little too, so that's where I'd start.

Yeah I'm sure those are two bigger factors than any pedals or anything. I still have no idea where to start looking at bigger and better amps. Ideally I'd want something I could run well with my guitars and bass and still have my bass sound huge without my guitars sounding wooly. Probably some 12"s and a versatile bass head?

In my experience cabs are less versitile to use for Bass and Guitar than heads.
Maybe a Fender Bassman, Ampeg B25 or Sunn 200s with different cabs for bass and guitar. :idk:
