School me on online music hosting sites

Post by Fuzzy Fred »

I currently use Purevolume, but they only allow 4 songs unless you buy a pro package, and I can't drop 60 bucks right now.

I like Soundcloud, but it isn't as nice and neat as some other sites, and I'm trying to use this to get shows, give previews of music to venues, fans, etc. So I don't want to have people like "how do i use this? fuck it, i'll just give up."

Purevolume has a nice set up and appearance, and I was wondering what else you guys use, that is preferably free, but aesthetically appealing and easy to use.

Btw, I chekced out bandcamp, do they not let you upload mp3s? wtf is that shit?

Bandcamp is awesome. The best, in my opinion. Saving my songs as .wav files has never been a problem for me. It's set up to work more as a business service, though.
Reverb nation is handy to have if you set up a band page on face book. The way it interfaces with social networks might be ideal for what you're going for.
please and thank you.

Soundcloud does allow you to send a direct link to your music.
Once there all the person has to do is click the big orange circle with the "play" arrow in it.
It's pretty easy and there really isn't much to navigate.

I hear you. All I'm saying is that I have had two places after sending them soundcloud links ask for something else because they couldn't figure out how to use it. Not me, but venues. I'm not gonna tell em they're fucking retarded

a 4 song limit isn't so bad for getting shows and having something basic to get people interested. venues will probably listen to one song, or just the a few seconds of each, just enough to get an idea of what you do. myspace and facebook are better options than purevolume, though, mainly because of social networking features.

myspace is familiar, even if it is a wasteland of a social network these days. actually the new music player there is even less convenient than i thought possible. still, if you put a show in there, songkick will find it.

facebook can help you network with people and get word out about shows and stuff. i love bandcamp and soundcloud, and i can't imagine how anyone wouldn't understand how to use either, but a facebook profile set to a bandpage (i've seen them through reverbnation and rootmusic, but there are probably others) is your best bet for giving a link to venues and anyone looking for a quick and easy way to keep up with your band.

of course all have their benefits, and it's no big deal to set up multiple outlets for your stuff. also, there's this site: http://www.uploadingmymusic.com/
please and thank you.

thanks guys. i don't know how they said they weren't able to get it to play either, but never underestimate the stupidity of the general populous.

I like soundcloud, but I love how Purevolume allows you to "make an album" so its all together, idk I think i just might choose four songs, then have a link to access all songs at soundcloud. I'll check out bandcamp some too guys

Another for bandcamp. Uploading in WAV format means ppl that download your shit get good sounding downloads in the format of their choice. Which is what you should want to give/ sell them. A page that loads quickly and a music player that works helps too.

The player on myspace won't work for me, I've checked and re-updated. And gave up! Has to be the slowest loading site on the interwebz besides.
