Yes, it sounds trippy, but one of the strange aftermaths of a hurricane is an increased amount of mushrooms popping up -- especially the psilocybin -- or "magic" kind -- the ones that cause hallucinations.

According to Dr. Casey Simon, an addiction expert based in Orange County, Calif., hurricanes create the perfect climactic conditions for the mushrooms to grow.

"Mushrooms are spores and they multiply in moisture and are spread by wind," he told HuffPost Weird News.

Dr. Suneil Jain, a naturopathic physician in Scottsdale, Ariz., goes even further.

"The moisture, humidity, the wind and the temperature during hurricanes is the perfect climate for mushrooms," he told HuffPost Weird News. "Also, both hurricanes and mushroom growth are associated with new or full moons, so there may be a lunar element as well."

Yep. It's sure dark, rainy and windy here. We're chillin' in the house for now though, amidst our piles batteries, flashlights and bottled water. Haven't checked the basement yet, though - that's an idea...

My wife's out in this crap working, checking stuff out with city officials. She's posted some videos on YouTube... here's one of the water outside the Providence hurricane barrier:

here's a handy thing you might want to do if you're in an area where it might flood, suggested on one of the sites i read: find the cleanout plug for your sewer line. if the sewer starts to back up into your house through the drains, you can relieve the pressure by removing the plug. it'll mean the sewage is in the yard, but that's better than the house, yes?

I just helped remove a tree that was on top of a car. No one hurt and amazingly not much damage to the car but that tree got fucked up. No power in the house so i cant resize the pics on my phone. The streets are closed to the public and im without power two hours now

Our power went out today. The storm was totally gone by late last night. It just turned back on.

What.

Yep. It was a lot of digging and pushing a tree in one direction that was being blown by strong winds in the other direction.

Downed power lines and down trees. Some side streets still need to be cleaned up. River flooding was minor here but beach flooding was about 5 feet higher than last years worst. Many RI residents still without power but i have power, internet and tv.

We got lucky here. Worst flooding was a few blocks from me and in a few other spots but no power loss or anything just some water in my basement. My mom said she saw a few power lines hanging way too low to be safe and me and my girlfriend went for a walk around town and saw someone's car completely crushed by a tree and a tree was leaning over a friend of mines car being held up by power lines but he got his car outta there before anything went down. Glad to here nothing serious happened to anyway here.
