God that movie sucked.
It absolutely did. The real animal deaths and some of the shit got to me though.
You know, having lived on a farm and having raised animals that were for our dinner purposes, animal deaths still get to me, but not that much. But in this film it was seriously unneeded and only there for the shock value of it. The rest of the deaths and mutilations just became so stupidly sickening that I skipped the movie ahead. Then the story sucked and was pointlessly typical.
Supposedly some of the mutilations were done on real dead bodies though, which as a human being kinda makes me wonder how it wasn't considered a snuff film.
It was certainly a game changer for me. I agree.
I used to be into the whole "I'm going to see something fucked up because its cooool" buzz, but post that film, I just wanted nothing to do with sickening stuff anymore. I still like horror, just don't have the patience, don't feel the need to expose myself to these torture porn or exploitation films that seem to be gaining popularity.
I wouldn't see 'A Serbian Film', for example. I want to see Martyrs but I have my reservations. Glad to hear 'Frontier(s)' is not something I'm missing out on etc.
Oh, and if you guys want fucked up, all the boxes are ticked:
Infanticide, rape, torture, vomiting... necropedophilia (though I didn't get that far in the flick to see).
Oh, and yeah. It's on Google Video:
'August Underground Mordem'. One of those things a buddy put on that I walked out of after 20 minutes.

it's great and unsettling yet seems somehow meaningful
