if they warn you, take it serious. hurricanes do not fuck around. but if you do have a gig, you must play as many hurricane-related songs as possible, until they bottle you off. "Like A Hurricane" by Neil Young should be good for at least 20 minutes.

Re: Hurricane headin north at some of y'all
Looks like Irene will be yet another hurricane that misses us in Savannah, Georgia.
We've had 17 storms within 200 miles since I have lived here. We've only had one hit-- a tropical depression. I was in Chicago, a thousand miles away.
Many of the storms start out on a direct course for us, and turn at the last minute. They just pass us by, sucking away our moisture and adding to our drought.
Is it crazy that I kind of wish we would get a tropical storm or a weak category 1, just to see what it's like...?
Of all odd timing, I will be working on this tomorrow evening while Irene passes just a couple hundred miles to the east as a category 3 hurricane. I started it a few weeks ago, and the timing just worked out.

The Middle East and the Mid-West have at least one thing in common: We're fucking sick of hearing about your weather.

I'm excited. Any amount of rain always floods at least two or three streets here. The kayak is prepared.

Re: Hurricane headin north at some of y'all

Looks like she is doing the classic East Coast Hurricane Track. Probably hit the Outer Banks of North Carolina then continue up the coast. As long as you live far enough inland and far enough above sea level you really only have to worry about property damage as opposed to loss of life. If you do live close to the coast or below sea level,...GTFO!!!! The storm surges are the killers and that's what fucked New Orleans when Katrina hit (New Orleans is essential built on re-claimed swamp land that is well below sea level).
I've lived through a number of Hurricanes while living in Virginia Beach, and it was really just an excuse to party. Lotsa Wind Lotsa Rain. Power will probably go out. Trees will be downed, but nothing really to note other than the surreality of such a storm. We actually played a show during a Hurricane in '99 or '00 (can't remember, but 1999 seems right). No hurricane themed songs were played but the power went out (which is shite for tube amps) so all the bands just hung out and watched the street lights get blown around. It was the one time that the owner of the bar we played shows in all the time let me underage drink in her bar (for some reason the liquor control board doesn't send out NARCs during hurricanes
).EDIT: My dad and his family still lives in Chesapeake VA,...so I'll definitely be keeping him and the rest of you East Coasters in my thoughts.
