Yeah I know,...google is evil,....



but I figure they already know everything they need to know to sell me shit anyway (ad block+ and no script = fuck you google),....so I'm checking it out. Seems to be in beta,....seems to be Facebook,...with some slightly different features. Allows for a more clique-ee-er type of social networking.

Okay I won't lie,...trying to grow my circles a little bit here. Add me as an acquaintance if you are savvy and don't be a dick about it.

I'm on Google+

Seems cool so far. We'll see where it goes. I've been wanting to get off of Facebook for a while, but most people I know do like half their communicating on it. It ends up being like:

Friend of mine: "Hey why didn't you come to that party at my place yesterday?"
Me: "What party? I didn't know about it."
Friend: "I messaged you on facebook."
Me: "Oh... Could have like called or something... I didn't check Facebook so..."

Of course it's just trading one for the other. But at least it puts all my shit in one place.

K, so here's what I don't get...

These recent internet "privacy" issues. Like Facebook having your person info, or Google remembering your searches...

You don't have to give Facebook -any- info. I'm on there with a fake name, and no real info. Even if it was my real name... so what? Who cares if Google knows what I searched for? It's not like I'm searching my god damn social security number. Or credit card number.Goo Google Street View is just low-quality street photography. Ever been on Flickr? TONS of that. And nobody says anything.

Now, if you post your address and phone number and stuff, that's on you... I don't get how that's Facebook's thing.

Maybe I'm just naive... or not paying attention.

the issue is that facebook is constantly changing their privacy structure, and changing your settings without telling you. you post things you believe to be private, and then facebook changes the settings and makes them public without telling you.

So far the only thing the I can gather that gives G+ an upper hand on the Faceboobs is the circles thing is a little easier to manage then the FB's lists. Drag and drop and you can share info with which ever "circles" of friends you want have access to it. It seems to help manage your feed better so if you don't give a shit what most of your "friends" are doing on FB you can set them up in a circle that has limited access to your "stream".

I'm also thinking about updating my shitty 3g phone with an Android 4G smartphone and going back on a data plan and since Google and Android are bedfellows it seems like G+ would be a good social networking site for the Android OS (I hate that I'm starting to sound like a consumer).

As far as privacy,...I try to keep up on that and pay attention to the data mining. I use the supposedly more secure https connection but honestly I think there is little too much fear and paranoia. Really the only thing Google does is advertising and like I said,...they already know everything they need to know to sell me shit. I circumvent that with Ad Block+ and No Script. And if Big Brother is watching I honestly want them to know that I smoke weed and hate the government and their corporatist, fundamentalist capitalist handlers.
