I have to agree with andtheliquidmen. Joel is a better host than mike, and all the movies he listed are great, except The First Spaceship on Venus is superior to Pod People.

Adding one: The Master - Lee Van Cleef shortly before he died in a god awful movie/tv show with Demi Moore where he plays a ninja. So sad... I love the man with no name trilogy and hes in two of those.

Re: Mystery science theater
my favorite MST3K episode was a movie whose name i don't remember, but which was a Norwegian or Swedish Viking-saga thing which they peppered with hilarious asides such as (when two blonde Aryan-ish leaders meet) "Welcome, Gregg Allman!" "and welcome, Roger McGuinn!" that had me falling sideways on the sofa. the quality of the episodes totally depends on the extent to which the movie works as a launching pad for snarky commentary; the quality of the actual film doesn't matter at all.
it's probably true that the whole school of reality TV with sarcastic commentary that's become common nowadays and whose best example is probably World's Dumbest would never have existed without MST3K as a precedent.

Dude... maybe you can help me find a specific episode/movie they did. One of the running jokes of the episode was that they kept showing this speech by a guy in a suit at the end of the movie... it's just this long, dull, drawn-out speech, and they all act really blown away by it like it's some mystical sermon. I know the climactic scene in the film is when the protagonists fight this squid-like monster that kinda looks like an Octorok from the Zelda games, and they burn its eye out with a blowtorch.
I think the guy in the suit that made the speech was a relatively famous actor.
Any idea?

Hmmmm. That could be any number of movies (what other situation with a giant octopod creature could this really apply to?). Was it color or black and white?

Black and white.
I know at the end there is a guy and a girl protagonist, and I don't know what kind of role the guy in the suit plays. I forget if the guy or the girl goes into the cave to blast the thing with the blowtorch... it's in like a kind of wasteland/woodsy/rocky area.
I asked this question on IMDB one time and a guy knew it right away, but I can't find the old link to the thread (if it even still exists). I'd know the name if I saw it... maybe I'll just look at a list of MST3K movies.
