MST3K is my all-time favorite show

So, you can divide the series into two parts, corresponding to the hosts: Joel and Mike. Both have their merits, but I have to pick Joel as my favorite.

Joel is the creator/original host. His style is MUCH more dry, bland, sleepy, and midwestern. He acts like a father figure to the bots.

Mike was one of the writers, who upon Joel's departure (see "forced out by series producer, Jim Mallon), took the reigns as the host. His style is much lighter and goofier. He acts like the retarded kid brother of the bots.

ANYWHO!

The best to start with would without a doubt be Pod People. It's not one of the most famous episodes, but I've seen it 3+ times, and it gets funnier each time. It has everything you could hope for: Low-budget knock-off of a Hollywood blockbuster (ET in this case), bad dubbing, a terrible musical number, and characters as funny looking as the "monsters." The host segments are also gold, with an awesome rendition of aforementioned terrible musical number. Pod People is hosted by Joel.

As for Mike-hosted episodes, I would start either with The Touch of Satan or Overdrawn at the Memory Bank.

One of the greatest posts ever. I have a Crow T Bot and a Tom Servo figurine that I watch movies with sometimes and try and be a goof like the show. I have the entire series downloaded on an external hard drive. There was a digital archiving project for the show awhile ago that got shut down to the public once someone realized they could make money prolly...

I totally agree with the post as well. Joel is my favorite. They aren't they only difference between the shows. They changed tv channels and villains. Pearl is great, but doesn't compare to the Frank and Dr. Forrester. Invention exchange is also a great part of the show.

The only thing I see missing is the most famous episode, doesn't mean it's the best but it's usually a great place to start... Manos Hand of God. Also, the movie would be a great place to start.

The thing with Manos is that it just hurts. It's one of the few movies that although having some hilarious moments, it really really REALLY hurts to get through. It's enough to turn people off if it's the first thing they jump into. Better off getting in with one of the denser episodes than that...thing.

Epic post! I agree with a lot of what was said here, though I'm a bigger fan of Mike, personally. I think it's more because a lot of the movies they watched at that point were just hilarious. As soon as they got to bad 80's horror, I don't think there was a funnier show in existence at the time...and maybe even still today!

Didn't see if "Squirm" was on that list, but that's another great one. "Werewolf" is flippin' amazing, I laugh so hard at certain scenes in that. "The Final Sacrifice" is probably the best shitty movie ever made, and some of their commentary is so funny that I find myself laughing at it randomly all the time when I think about it. "Soultaker" is another amazing one. Anything with Joe Don Baker is gold ("Mitchell", "Final Justice")...especially if you like humor at the expense of fat people (I'm fat so I can laugh at it without remorse). If you like Robert Z'Dar (famous B-movie actor, probably mostly for portraying Maniac Cop), dinosaurs, and bad forced perspective, please do not overlook the epicly shitty "Future War". I also think "Manos: The Hands of Fate" is a great leap into the deep end, if you're daring. Hilarious commentary to what may be the worst movie of all time...and I'm including every video I made on my father's camcorder when I was a youth. Seriously.

The Creeping Terror and Manos: The Hands of Fate are by far and away my favourites. Werewolf and Laser Blast are also excellent. It's really hard to pick a bad one.

I have to agree with andtheliquidmen. Joel is a better host than mike, and all the movies he listed are great, except The First Spaceship on Venus is superior to Pod People.
