Have to say,I am totally surprised by even a remote possibility of this bill getting passed. Granted,it should be that ANYONE who wants to use marijuana should be able to,but the concept is pretty radical for a state like AL.,not exactly known for being open-minded
Medical Marijuana is allowed in the State of Washington. I may be fuzzy on the details but the conversation I had with bandmates resulted in these conclusions. If you have a documented condition for 3 months, have been prescribed 3 pharm medications that have not worked then you can apply for a medical marijuana card that allows to grow up to 14 plants for personal use. Granted this is hearsay and not actual research.
There have been attempts to decriminalize. There were some dispensaries here in Spokane but they got raided and shutdown by the FEDs even though the state essentially said they were above board. I really wish they would spend more time going after real criminals (Wall Street Greedsters that perpetrated the housing loan and subprime mortgage scam) instead of waging war on the working class.
I'm kinda in the same boat as what Spunkiez said over in the other thread. Medical marijuana laws don't excite me for several reasons.
This doesn't help the millions and millions of people that want to smoke pot that aren't sick. I want drugs legalized because it's a freedom issue, not because it helps sick people. If people keep using the medicinal argument, that boxes in the legalization arguments. Because now it's not about freedom anymore.
Colorado's the land of MMJ, but mostly I've seen it being used by 20 year olds in college complaning of "stress" or "pain" or "back problems". Yeah, horseshit. YOu just want to fork out more for the really good weed. Your choice I guess.
But my brother will be happy about Alabama. He's going to school there, and just so happens to be the family pot head.

No, they'll promote themselves to hijacking medical marijuana shops. Why sell pot when you can just get the money, right?
Why do people who smoke weed or don't care get all huffy about "medical" marijuana. You do realize it's a great stepping stone for legalization, right? There isn't a prayer of a real legalizaton bill passing yet, so why get upset that you have to (pretend to) be sick?
I was running a marijuana dispensary when prop 19 in California was attempting to be passed, and you wouldnt believe the idiocy of people, particularly the med patients: "I'm not voting on this, I'm waiting for a bill that allows FULL legalization for 18 year olds."
It boggles my mind, people act like everything has to be absolutely the way they want it the first time or fuck it all. Yes, it sucks to have to go to a doctor to get your card. I believe that, for it's harmlessness marijuana could be sold at a corner store. But I recognize that simply isnt going to happen, probably not even in my lifetime, and I certainly wouldnt deprive anyone of the right to Medical MJ, especially not the sickest among us.
On another note, I know I'm a know-it-all about everything anyways but on this subject I have tons of experience having worked in the industry for so long (and grown since I was a teenager), so if anyone has any questions or interests about how MMJ programs work I'd be happy to share. I predominantly worked in California but I'm familiar with almost every states program.
I have no problem with your assessment plhogan and I don't take any issues at all with Medical Marijuana props. I will say that in the state of WA,...on the surface at least,....you actually do have to be sick in order to receive a script. Obviously where there is a will there is a way,....but if you are a podunk recreational user such as myself. Jumping through the hoops to get a card is not feasible.
I won't argue it's not easier in California, but some of the stuff your friends have told you isn't quite true. You don't need to have had 3 medications or anything like that, there aren't any of those kinds of prequisites. I know for a fact that for around 100 dollars you can go to any number of clinics in Spokane and walk out with a recomendation. All you really need to bring is standard medical forms from your doctor about pretty much any issue, as long as you say it causes nausea. It may sound daunting, but it's one of those things where you'll walk out of the clinic after being nervous all day and say "that was all?".
And no, don't worry about being on any kind of "list", the only person who knows you have your rec Is the doctor at the MMJ clinic. That informationis protected by law. What happens when you go to a dispensary (they raided them recently in Spokane but where 1 closes, 2 more take it's place) is that you'll present them with your rec, and they'll call a number on it to verify it with your doctor. Simple as that, for the cost of two 8ths you're buying weed from the store. You're actually lucky, washington is one of the significantly easier states to get your card in.

But then weed will be legalized so there can be huge investments in weed and weed paraphernalia, creating a new, booming industry, jumpstarting the economy.
Problems solved
