Aw, that's lame that happened. Tell 'em to book a vacation to the NYC!

You know... I agree with you.
I don't quite get the excitement over medial marijuana. You're still using it the same way people abuse prescription painkillers. Isn't it still illegal since you're not sick?
I'm all for use of pot as an alternate to some medications, but I'd be much better for it to just be legalized in general.
Keeping with the subject of the thread, it reminds me of civil unions. Better than nothing but still... not quite there.

Eh,progress is progress. blooghost funfact: I'm mentally ill, according to the doctors. I might just qualify, after all
EDIT: Sorry,if in any way,I de-railed this thread at all
I think its great that people who need it use it. if it helps you sleep or helps your depression sure. it doesn't have ANY negative side affects when used properly. I was once a licensed medical grower in the state of Rhode Island. I was arrested. nothing is more controversial than marijuana. not surprising that marijuana laws are inconsistent and nonsensical. its the only form of medicine that law enforcement feels they need to deprive doctor-supervised-licensed-patients of. if a doctor tells you how many blood pressure pills to take everyday and a cop tells you to take less or not take them, you could die from that. the cop is probably not a trained medical professional to the extent that he can write or modify a doctors prescription. so why the FUCK does he want to hurt people in the name of protecting them? simple, drug bust = budgets, promotions, good publicity and re-elections. we just had two cops beat a man to death in a back alley in my town because his friend punched a hole in a wall at a bar. clearly they dont give a fuck about service and public safety. they have a real tank and a military base payed for by the federal government. I wonder how much federal dick you have to suck to get that.

Marijuana is as safe as Melatonin, seeing as how basically the only dangerous thing you can do on either is drive (hell, you can actually take enough melatonin to DIE!). So if it helps you sleep or relax why should you be prevented from that option?
Also, yes legalization would be better but it's like Civil Unions (bringing it back to gays). No, they aren't "as good" as being allowed to marry but it's a damn better step in the right direction, and in many (most, sadly) states gay marriage bills simply wouldn't pass, so why not start somewhere. Hopefully after a few years of civil unions and medical MJ people will see the sky hasnt fallen and start to come around. Pragmatism isn't always a dirty word.
I feel the major reason that Marijuana isn't legal across the board is because Pfizer, Merck and all the other Pharmaceutical companies can't put a patent on it. These guys don't want citizens growing their own medicine at a fraction of the cost of a prescription drug.
but dont forget that the first anti pot lobby was the cotton industry, not big pharma. alcohol and tobacco played a role as well. and last but not least the federal government was looking at huge profits from taxing alcohal and tobacco as opposed to a plant that grows wild and is essentially as free and un-taxed as the grass you walk on. if beer grew on tree's they wouldn't be making much money on that either. notice how its still illegal to make and consume any liquor unless you have a tax ID for it.

yes. there was a lot of bigotry towards mexicans and african americans. they wanted the blacks to stop dancing and stealing (true or not thats what they thought). and they wanted the mexicans to go back to mexico. so marijuana tax stamps were ironically the first major immigration law since the whole naturalization process was invented.
Well,fuck-I de-railed this thread without meaning to. Maybe I can post a thread re: the Alabama Medical Mary Jane bill and a Mod could move all related posts to it. But so far I agree with what everyone's had to say regarding. Again,my bad to SPACERITUAL(?I think he made the thread) for any derailment.
