Oh man, look what just arrived. Postal Strike be damned! (bypassed it with DHL, had to pay an extra $12 but it was worth it).
A couple of weeks ago I snagged something that looked like it might be nice but couldn't be sure til it arrived...
So, until I opened this up I really had no idea whether I was a lucky bastard or an idiot .. the auction had one crappy pic, the seller had no idea what he was selling, didn't want to tip him off with questions, so took a chance. Was I getting what I thought i was getting or was it a crappy 80s reissue?

The volume pot has been changed at some point: it reads M50k[ohm]A -- shouldn't that be 500k though? Might try a 100 in there seeing as it's been changed anyway.

Try messing with the carrier in! My favourite is splitting the guitar signal into the input and the carrier in, thus making it modulate itself. Nothing will happen if you play only one note, but as soon as you play two or more, the more fucked up the sound will get. This effect will increase if you go out of the natural note steps and start playing those jazzy chords. Well, they wont be jazzy chords no more. Stick a delay in front of the split for extra fun.

if you paid less than $800 I would say that you got the deal of the century. the only down side is that the modern germanium clones have carefully selected transistors perfectly biased and consistent throughout the batch of pedals. like when your transistors drift or leak or dry up after 40 years, your getting farther away from the original spec (not much spec to begin with). where as a clone has everything starting fresh, almost as if its brand new. if I were you I would compare it to a good clone and sell the real deal to some collector if it doesnt sound as good. thats a lot of money.
