Re: THE BEER THREAD(?)----->!!!
because i'm now in a college dorm where drinking is frowned upon, even though I'm 21, I've been drinking rum and coke since about 3 today. For $21, I don't know if I'd get a giant bottle of sailor jerry again though...

That is an excellent brown. Have you ever tried New Glarus Fat Squirrel nut brown? Also top notch classic brown ale.
I've been too broke to buy beer for a couple weeks now. Down to the very last of my Minhaus Lights + 1888's.

I'd like to try a nicer beer, I'm just not sure what, among the random brands around here, is dec.
Im not sure what you get down at the beach but im sure theres a greens or two so try anything from stone. levitation and arrogant bastard are fantastic and if you can find hwy 76 scotch you need to try it before its gone. Also rogue deadman is availiable at pretty much all supermarkets and is a good place to start. If youre ever in charleston they host what has been rated the finest beer store in the country, the charleston beer exchange. Everyone there is friendly and welcoming and excited to introduce people to the world of craft beer so if youre ever in the area i reccommend giving it a shot. A warning though; developing a taste for fine beer can be quite detrimental to your bank accnt.

Re: THE BEER THREAD(?)----->!!!
Oh man, I missed the IPA discussion.
My opinion on IPAs is complicated. I like them, and a lot of time they are lifesavers, as some bars will just have an IPA as like their only craft selection. However, I do have to say that we as Americans overdo them (as we overdo everything else). If you have an IPA over in Europe, it will be bitter and have a good hop aroma, but it won't be the ridiculous fist of hops crammed up your ass like we make them over here. And it has also spread to other types of beers, so that we've started making basically all of our ales ridiculously bitter with dry-hop aroma, whether the style calls for it or not. Hops is only part of a beer recipe, but Americans have made it the predominant taste/aroma. You very rarely get a really malt-driven ale that is brewed in America, like you can get from a good Scottish Ale or Double Bock. When Americans make those styles, they still wallop you with hops.

Here's another great local product... The Dominus Vobiscum it's a "double" from Microbrasserie Charlevoix at Baie-Saint-Paul (Quebec).
