Eat it, Cali
So I moved to Chicago this last Wednesday. Got me, the wife and our two cats on a plane, the rest of our shit will be here after the 4th.
Any fellow Chicagoans on the board? Is that even what we're called? Any suggestions/advice/warnings? Where can I get a decent burrito? Are there always this many black people? We're in a house in the northside suburbs, just past Evanston. Finally have a basement to rock out in. I'm just glad to be away from California, other than the weed stores it ain't got nothing on a real metropolitan area. I've lived in LA, San Diego and San Francisco and they all pale to this city.

Ahh, large Midwestern cities. They have everything you could ever imagine, good and bad.
I was in Chicago yesterday. Got a good barbacoa taco. I was kinda drunk and I could quite remember exactly what I ordered or their portions. Then they brought me one taco, and I was like, "Hm, looks good." and it was good. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name or even what neighborhood we were in. It was certainly more in the city than Evanston.
I think MLC lives somewhere near there, Schaumberg or something. I was born in Hoffman Estates.
Oh, and since you're from Cali, buy yourself a nice coat. You're gonna need it.
Well, welcome to Flyoverland!

Oh, the Chicago suburbs
I live about an hour from Evanston, but yeah. I'm leaving in August to go to Colorado. I do love Chicago, tons of cool stuff, be sure to check out free concerts at Millennium Park on Mondays.
Some cool stores around, Chicago Music Exchange is a definite must and there is a decent store in Evanston, I forget what its called though

I don't live there but I've spent a fair amount of time there.
1. Chicago Music Exchange is amazing. If you go, be prepared to spend some cash because I guarantee you WILL find something you can't live without.
2. Avoid the Taste of Chicago at all costs. It is worse than you could possibly imagine.
3. The Burrito House on Lincoln (take the Brown Line to Addison) is the best late-night drunk food ever.
4. When flying, use Midway if at all possible. O'Hare is appropriately nicknamed "O'Hell."
5. The Lincoln Park zoo is free. And awesome.

I already tried deep dish and it was a soggy disaster. But a local thin crust with the pepperoni underneath? Makes all the flash mob muggings worth it.

i was born in Chicago and grew up there, and i swear if the weather wasn't so fucking horrible i'd move back in a minute. my favorite thing is the park along the lakefront on the far North Side. i lived on Carmen Avenue for some time and used to love to sit on the rocks and watch the waves come in.

I live in St. Louis so we've been to Chicago NUMEROUS times for shows, starting back in high school (lots of goods bands skip my shitty city). It's srsly one of the coolest cities I've ever visited, never once ran out of things to do/see/eat/etc. And it's so fucking bustling as opposed to the rotted out ghost town that was St. Louis.
Shitload of venues and a cool local music scene. Plus, every tour stops in Chicago.
The weather is the one thing that's kept me from moving there, although the weather here ain't to great either.

Re: Eat it, Cali
Two of my good friends live in Chicago so I frequent the Lincoln Park area of the city, it's great.
I should never have gone to Lucky's, one bite out of their capicola sandwich and I'm forever craving another
If you're ever near Wrigley you owe it to yourself to eat at Lucky's
Also Oven Grinder's pizza-pot-pie is delicious, better than any deep dish pizza I've had there.
Chicago is a great city, wish I could afford to go to school there but Minneapolis ain't half bad either

I was born in Chicago (Lincoln Park) and grew up in Detroit, I'm used to the shitty weather. What's funny is when we left California last week it was 105 degrees at fucking 11am, the weather out here is a welcome relief right now.
I will, however, be dead by winter.
