Re: Bitch about TalkBass here. Post Boobs while you are at i
Not to derail,....and I know that ILF is a pie-centric site,...but here is some Cake.
http://www.cbs.com/late_night/liveonlet ... ake/video/
You may be asking why I'm posting and Advertisement riddled CBS link; forgive me for that. The significance is a small victory for my "boss"; Darrin Huff (the guy I've been apprenticing with). The bass guitar that Gabe Nelson is playing is a prototype Zeller bass guitar. Darrin did the bulk of the work but I did the accent stripes in the neck. You can see and hear this bass in the CBS link. It's a 45 minute set played by Cake on the stage of the Ed Sullivan Theater. I think they play a song as part of an actual Late Night episode,...to air on June 30th.

Darrin has been struggling with a mountainous back order,...exorbitant turn around times; but he has found renewed vigor in restoring his reputation. With the permission of his clientele he took on the challenge of finishing Gabe's bass for him to play on Late Night with David Letterman. I think this is a good step in reversing Darrin's fortunes and getting a very anxious group of people their basses. Of course there are naysayers that spew their venom,...and they are entitled to do so and form their opinion,....but this feels like a step in the right direction towards proving them wrong. I'm loathed to have the discussion spill over onto ILF but if you must here is the thread.
http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f8/darrin ... up-256053/
In all honesty I've moved beyond defending Darrin and my skin has thickened to the point where you all don't need to have my back (although the thought is appreciated
).
ILF was a bad influence on me for a while and I really wanted to vent my frustrations with TB on TB,...but without getting any warnings or infractions,...I checked myself quickly. I don't know,...my TBFX contributions have seriously plummeted when I started posting actively here.
With regards to the TB thread in which all the peanut gallery gangs up on Darrin Huff and pats each other on the back for the wonderful service that they are providing the bass playing community,....ILF has taught me to have a thick skin,....so in the midst of calls of a Scam/Con artist I posted the rehearsal photograph of Cake on the stage of the Ed Sullivan. I'm content to let the peanut gallery spew their venom without reactionary responses on my part. Take that TB.

I'd actually been lurking in this thread now and then for before being invited to join; in one of the usual "What the best --- for metal?" threads that for some-odd reason I wandered into Over There, the noob OP didn't like most of the suggestions given and argued with everyone about anything said, and I off-handedly posted something like "...the guys over at ILF are gonna LOVE this one..." and I was promptly busted for trolling by one of the mods (got an official warning PM and everything), as were the two or three people who lol'd at my post, and all of those posts were removed within minutes.
You people are a bad influence.

That's a pretty bass. Do you have a shot of the headstock?
TB is what it is, I have learned...good for some things, point-and-laugh for other things. And FWIW, I didn't know about your boss's 'drama' until you mentioned it just now.

It's a mess for sure,...but to be honest,...I feel like 10 years down the road; after all this has past, it will just be a footnote.
These are screencaps that one of Darrin's patiently waiting clients posted in that wait list thread.

Thanks. I'm getting a similar one. Birdseye Maple Fingerboard like the one shown. Trans Blue (or it could be opaque). I'm not sure if we decided on a Quilted maple top or a plain maple top or even if we are going with or without a PG. If with I want pearloid. I'm getting ahead of myself though. Still lots of orders to be filled.

The square headstock adds a lot of character to the bass as well. Stick some MM humbuckers in there and I'd call it pretty perfect.
How heavy was it?

Not sure but they are intended to be light. I haven't actually held it in my hand but other Huff Basses are light. I'm sure Gabe's bass is lighter than my Warwick at least.
