Didn't bebop jazz solos take advantage of this to an extreme? As long as the root notes in your phrase are there, you can pretty much slide up/down to whatever and sound highly technical.


Well it's not *quite* that simple, but yea...bebop does give you that freedom (mostly because the harmony is so complex anyway that just about any note will fit into the chords :cool: )
