this one is based on the famous Zen koan of the peach and the tiger:
Joke: Latvian chase by politburo military off cliff. He hang by branch and see potato grow on branch. He reach for potato, but fall of cliff. Such is life.
i'm really glad you don't have to live under Stalinist tyranny any more. that way when Axel recommends me cool pedals or cracks excellent puns in his second language he doesn't have to worry about being arrested. just over twenty years ago that wouldn't have been the case. sometimes many of us take things for granted...google "Plastic People of the Universe" sometime if you don't know the story of what people used to go through just to play music in Czechoslovakia under Soviet rule. i'm really, really happy that you get to live in a free country, man.

I'm so glad I don't live in a country like Communist Poland where public workers have to stage massive protests to retain the independence of their unions just to have them stripped away by some Stalinist dictator.
Oh wait...

sorry, mate...a lot of people say stuff like that and mean it seriously. the OTT apocalyptic nature of Wisconsic political rhetoric blows my mind. the government isn't going to collect dues for the unions any more! the world will end! ZOMG! seriously, it's like all the crazy people from Chicago moved there after the 70s ended or something.
and please excuse me for being a bitch. as i mentioned el;sewhere, i've been in really severe physical pain the last few days and it's made me literally crazy. i've been having more mood swings than Lindsay Lohan at a crack house.

Axel, Recently there was a whole hullaballoo in Wisconsin when the new governor brought an end to collective bargaining for public school teachers' unions and make it more difficult for them to collect union dues under the justification that it would make it easier to solve a budget crisis. There were parts in the bill about ending certain pension benefits for teachers, and the unions conceded on that issue and agreed that it was acceptable unlike the other parts of the bill which don't actually save any money at all whatsoever. The minority lawmakers exploited a loophole saying that if they were across state lines they weren't required to vote on the bill and could therefore cause a standstill because they couldn't make quorum.
In the end, they modified the bill in a way that took some of the budgeting issues out so they could justify the anti-union sections which don't actually save any money and haven't been exploited since for any kind of savings. Obviously, I'm biased, but it strikes me as odd that a newly elected politician's first major action is to deliberately attack one of the greatest supporters of his opposing parties under the claim that it saves money when it does no such thing. In other words, the whole thing reeks of a politician lying through their teeth in a roundabout way to deplete campaign funding for his opposing party and to seem like he's doing something good when he's really doing very little, if anything.
I just like to compare the issue to the whole Solidarity struggle simply because it gives me an excuse to compare Republicans to communists which is something that they absolutely hate. teehee
