Post-rock?I know we've had this discussion..but what exactly does that mean?...can you give comparisons to other bands?
real fucking slow and quiet rock, no vocals, and then it either continuously builds up to really fucking loud and fuzzy, or it alternates back and forth.

Re: Heaviest Band You've Ever Heard
loudest show i saw was trans am at the fireside bowl in chicago in 98? they were touring for surrender to the night... my buddy phil blames that show for massive hearing loss and i felt my shoelaces vibrating...
heaviest show i saw was probably SUNN ((O))))) at the empty bottle in 2003. the grim robes tour...

the baddest-assed show i ever saw was john mclaughlin and the free spirits live at the scumburg prairie center in 96!
bongripper is pretty fucking heavy though!
i am seeing this in two months!!! http://www.daysofthedoomed.com/Home_Page.html

I'm sad to say it but this is every Post-Rock song summed up.
Regardless I'm a pretentious fuck so I love GY!BE and Post Rock in general

Hey, Jakob and Mogwai are two of my favorite bands, and they're both guilty of beating that formula to a grisly death.

Re: Heaviest Band You've Ever Heard
Post-rock uses the same instrumentation and sounds as rock music but uses different structures and such to create a more fluidly dynamic sound. Explosions in the Sky and Sigur Ros would be two other examples. I like the way post-rock sounds, I just get tired of it a lot of the time. Listening to Sigur Ros, however, is like having one continuous orgasm. Sometimes I can't listen to them because they're too good(especially when I'm high).

It's a toss up between Sunn O))) and My Bloody Valentine. Two of the loudest, heaviest, most awesomest shows I've been lucky enough to witness.

I saw Sunn O))) and Boris do the "Altar" album at small'ish place in Brooklyn (1500 ppl or something...) and their soundcheck felt like Andre The Giant was pushing my chest against a brick wall with brisk, hot wind blowing in my face. There was literally a breeze coming off of the wall of speaker cabs. They made it about a minute and a half into the first song before the power in the building gave out. H E A V Y .

Well, like compared to The Who at the Meadowlands or something I think 1500 is smallish. Hahahaha. So maybe it's medium'ish?
