I don't own any Sabbath
though I do like the few songs I've heard.
Any album recommendations?

I am sure I will overwhelm you! hahahha. Pretty much I am a Sabbath super fan so I like all albums even the records post Oz-man. You really should start with the S/T because that album is dark and creepy and gnarly. It frightened me as a young kid and if I listen to it alone it still does. Hahaha. Master of Reality is my absolute fave.....with Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Volume 4 tied for second. Do not trust the views of others....Sabotage is an excellent record!!!! Try any of those and I am sure you will be a fan before you know it. Also, Tony's guitar sound and Geezer's bazz fuzzyness will have you drooling either way.

In: Earplugs, because the first rehearsal with my new post-rock-a-like band was too loud for my ears

At least you can admit it, too many people ruin their hearing because they are "too tough" for earplugs

Of course I was one of those guys a few years back.. After those days I was in a pretty pro band that had the volumelevels set acceptable, but this was really earpiercing, which is cool of course (with earplugs)
I want some plugs fitted to my ears someday, but for now those cheap ones with pretty decent filters will do

So who uses earplugs?

Re: What is in the post? The thread of and for GAS!
I just started using these for shows:
http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/er20.html
They were under $15 and work great. If you're really trying to block out noise you can shove them in all the way, but I like the pull them out a tiny bit because it cuts volume and that high piercing wish wash, but still lets me feel like I'm at a show. Plus my ears are fine afterward. I'd recommend them.
Nah you're not overwhelming, I appreciate the feedback
I'll probably pick up one of the first three records first.
Thank you both.

I used Hearos for a while until a couple years back, I spent the money and got some Westone custom earplugs. They have removable db reduction filters, so you can have as much/little as you want. Definitely worth the $150 for them; you can't repair lost hearing.
IN: a pickup for my uke. I bought the uke in February as a fun, casual learning type of thing. When I was at rehearsal for a theatre run last Sunday, the music director said there was a ukulele part that "has to be in, it's the Finale." So, since I'll be doubling on uke now, I need a pickup for it since just mic'ing it will not work in our situation.

everyone should wear earplugs. if you don't have them and you play loud or with a drummer, get them so you'll be able to keep hearing that wonderful fuzz into your older years. i got a pair of molded plugs years ago and it was one of the best investments i've ever made... i lost the first set on a plane (had them for maybe 2 years?) but the second set has been doing me right for the past 2-3 years or so.

WHAT?!? WHAT DID YOU SAY? I CAN'T HEAR YOU - I'M A BASS PLAYER. CAN'T HEAR A DAMN THING ANYMORE SINCE MY DRUMMER GOT HISSELF ONE O' THEM DOUBLE KICK DRUM THINGIES. NOW GET OFF MY LAWN, YOU GODDAMN KIDS!
Heh. I kid. Actually, for the longest time I was the only one in my band who wore earplugs. The singer/keyboard player still won't. My hearing is bad enough from the one band I played with in high school before I started wearing earplugs - I don't need it to get any worse!
I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

GROSS FACT: my ears are so clogged with wax all the time that I rarely notice a difference when I put in earplugs. I have to get them cleaned out pretty regularly.
