Re: Heaviest Band You've Ever Heard
I hate it when I click Full Editor rather than submit, so here's a synopsis:
Major label tours it's a tie between Zao and Remembering Never for heaviness live.
The Chariot was super loud, but not really "heavy". Throwdown was heavy, but made me laugh too much to top the list. Dead to Fall was really heavy live.
Number Twelve was extremely heavy, and amazing. I miss that band.
The heaviest bands have really been local acts though. We played with a band in Lake Station Indiana that had two guitarists playing eight (I think?) string baritones and had no bass player. That effing band was the heaviest band I'd ever heard. They were too legit to quit, I wish I could remember their name. We were supposed to play with See You Next Tuesday, and I had high hopes for the heaviness of that show. AXP from Warsaw Indiana is super heavy. Fun to see. Dudes are dickholes though.
The list goes on and on, there are so many great heavies... I'm sure as soon as I really post I'll think of more.

Re: Heaviest Band You've Ever Heard
Heaviest hands down for me was Sunno))). Vibrating innards and fucked up heart rhythms for an hour and a half, wooo.
Second in place would be Boris, the first time I saw them. Second time they were playing a lot more of their sparklier, lighter stuff. But the first time I saw them back in 08 was all heavy and droned out and shit.
I've seen the Chariot, I'd say they're 'loud' but not really all that 'heavy', for the most part, though that might just be the venue I saw them at, it felt like the lows were really lacking for their set. Alternatively, original lineup Norma Jean playing Bless the Martyr and Kiss the Child = fucking heavy.

I remember when Motorhead were the heaviest band in the world. Still remember the first time I heard Overkill ... I'd never heard anything like it.
Great live band too, saw em loads of times with Eddie and Phil, and a few times with the other guys too in big places (well, big for the UK) and in tiny little clubs too. Great stuff. I'm off to listen to Beerdrinkers!

I saw the last five minutes of a Boris show. IT WAS THE BEST FIVE NON-SEXUAL MINUTES EVER.

Oh, Every Time I Die was super heavy live
Favorite performance I've seen thus far in my life.

Probably would have to be sleep on their last reunion tour. The venue was handing out earplugs at the door.

Ryan wrote:My favourite heavy bands are Crowbar and Morbid Angel... for me, heavy means a certain kind of crushing palm mutes and slow hugely distorted power chords that just have this sound of being 'heavy'. It's not about being loud or fast and it doesn't really matter what the vocalist is doing either... just guitars and drums for me, super distorted, slow, and delivered in a way that is aggressive.
