out of curiosity: anyone ever been mugged or witness a mugging?
if you saw someone being mugged, would you feel the need to do anything? would you actually do it?
if you were mugged, was anyone around? if so, do you feel resentful towards apathetic bystanders?
similar scenarios (theft, fights, etc) count as well.

Yep! I've been there.

Would I feel the need? Yeah, probably. If I would do it, well, what you say and what you do when that situation is actually there are two different things -- situations like that are kind of shocking without much room for planning. But I like to think that I'd help out.
Unless it was obviously running headfirst into the barrel of a gun. I don't know what I'd do then, maybe end up hiding while someone gets blown away.

Actually it was in plain sight, right next to a stop sign even. So there were people stopped in cars watching it happen. At the time I was pissed, for a while after I was pissed. But that was a long time ago; it doesn't matter anymore. Remembering it, it's like "man, what the fuck was that?", but I'm not angry at those people. In my case it was 5-on-2, I guess I can see why they were hesitant or whatever. I do think it's kind of fucked up seeing stories on the news where nobody in a crowd helped out.

A classmate of mine had a really big mouth while being very small which made it hilarious (his face added to the hilarity), others generally didn't agree and wanted to rough him up. Him I would defend. Going to soccer games in Europe I've seen more fights than I should, hooligans and all, never got involved in those.
As for muggings, depends on how dangerous the mugger looks, I'm not doing jack shit if there's a gun involved. But if it's some random 15 year old punk ripping off some old person I have no problem flooring them.

Had one guy jump on my neck from behind with another trying to punch me from the front wanting my cell phone, which I didn't own. Nobody was close enough to see what was happening. Wouldn't resent them if there had been apathetic ones around. Too many stories about stabbings with the occasional gunshot fired in that neighbourhood for people to really jump in.

Re: mugged?
Let's make this short:
Yes. I've been to that kind of shit fairly often when I was Younger.
ALWAYS help others in a tough spot, if at all possible. It doesn't mean You have to rush headfirst in the fight, if there's another way. It's more advisable to first ask help from other bystanders for help to end the fight, tell the muggers to stop and call for help. Everybody's got a phone, right? And perhaps a camera, mmh? Even taking pics could help out the victim afterwards. Helping others out isn't optional, it should be regarded as Your own example of how You want others to react were You being attacked.
I've been in more fights than I can remember, I've been attacked by three guys and I've been pulled a knife against more than twice. Sure I feel bitter for not always getting help on the spot. But sure I understand, people either have it in them or they don't. At least they usually checked back if I needed help if I didn't kick ass or bluff through that night.

I found out two days ago a guy I used to hang out with was "mugged" and murdered on Thursday. Really bummed.

Re: mugged?
I jumped 9 guys for talking shit and 5 jumped in but I really only wanted one guy so I called them pussies and told them to watch while I beat up the leader. I got the first punch in, got hit from behind a bunch, but I got this guy into a headlock and they all ran like bitches cause someone said cops. but there was no cops. just a bunch of pussies. I went for an xray to find a hairline fracture in my skull. you cant cast it so I went home.
eventually I cought him trying to break into my car. this was common for a crackhead. when I found him he bit me and smashed all my windows. when he got arrested the judge took money out of his paychecks to fix my ride. epic win

Re: mugged?
My friends and I have def fuzzed people up for beatin on girls. You just don't do that. And I have been robbed before but I deserved it/put myself in a dumb position so can't really dwell.
I feel like if I saw it happening I would help. The first time I went to a concert there was a fight in the lot afterwards. Saw a chick get punched by some guy for sticking up for her boyfriend. We ran over and jumped in until cops showed. I was 15 then, I think I've only gotten more agressive since, haha
