i had one but i dropped it accidentally and it smashed.
i used it for tea a lot more than coffee because i like tea more, but french pressed coffee is really fucking good.

As far as the question of how long to steep, I usually go 5 minutes, though if I'm making just a small amount I think 3 minutes is enough. And yeah, you want to bring your water to a boil and pour it like 30 seconds or so off of the boil, you want it to be just under a boil.

Victoire! I just got back from a thrift shop excursion. After going to four different store and dealing with shitnuts traffic, I found a sweet coffee grinder and a nice French press for a total of $9
