Thinkin about making my own Ouija board. Thoughts?

Post by culturejam »

I got some half-ass decent leftover red oak pieces that I think is enough total material to make a "normal"-sized Oujia board. I'm thinking I'd do like finger-lap or maybe dado joints (with probably three sections of wood making up the entire board). And then I'd use a sweet roundover bit on my router table on the edges, sand it down real nice, wood-burn the letters and shit into the wood, and finish it off with some wood wax. Maybe a Cthulhu theme for extra occult points? Or maybe I could do an ILoveFuzz version for funny/scare points. Or a "Hail Eris!" Illuminati theme?

My wife had a harrowing experience with one of these as a young lady. I mentioned to her a few months ago about making one, and she was quite vehemently opposed to it, on account that if I made it she'd be tempted to use it. I let it go for a while, but it's been on the back of my mind ever since. She's gonna be out of town this weekend, so I thought maybe I'd have a go at getting most of the foundation work done (or at least measured and cut).

I kinda half-believe and half-don't-believe this kind of shit. So I'm 50% freaked out that I have been secretly thinking about making this thing for the last 3 months or so, and like half-jazzed to get started. :yay:

I'm actually not the world's best woodworker, but I have all the tools to get this one done and I'm always saying I should do more wood projects.

Any thoughts on this? Warnings, dire predictions, or "hell yeah!!"s?

:!!!:

Goat's blood is kind of expensive these days. What I would do is carve two channels into the board so you two can empower it with your own blood.

I'm actually serious, though. So given that I will actually attempt this, do you fuckers have any input for real?

You should make use of some glow in the dark powder. It's cheap and supposedly has a long...uh, glowy lifetime.

I made my own Oujia board once. I was drunk with this chick who really wanted to make one so we grabbed a sharpie and the paper bag we bought our beers in and set to work. It turned out pretty shitty and it totally didn't work when we tried to contact Lucifer, but hopefully you'll have better luck on both counts.

Anyway, the Cthulu theme sounds pretty fucking cool. Maybe get some of those mouth tentacles coming off the side of the board. :idk:

Good luck!

Are we giving advice on how to make a ouija board, or how to do cocaine? ;)

But really, save yourself some time and just make all the spots read "ass."

 I was serious! Why not up the creepy ante, and get some blood on that thing? Heck, buy a steak.

If you're serious about it, go for the gusto!

As an atheist who believes in ghosts, i think you should go to a butcher and get some blood. They'd probably give it to you for free. To burn the letters use branding irons if possible, they'll probably make the letters come out fairly neat. It needs some kind of border, cthulu themed or vines or whatever.

Yeah, I definitely want to burn the letters and decoratives in the wood. But then I'm thinking that will make it tricky for the planchete to move around smoothly.

Nah, you definitely need a "In your pants!" point as well as a "Satan says this is such a load of superstitious shite" spot.
What kind of harrowing experience can you really have with a piece of wood and a cup? (I can understand being harrowed by 2 girls and 1 cup though), but ouija?
Good deals done with all these guys
