The industrial strength stuff that is like hooks on both sides is even more expensive. It's more uniform surface, though, than the cheap velcro's hook side. They use that stuff to hold big things in trucks. The other bonus about the industrial velcro that only has one side: it doesn't scratch stuff up.

I lost the strip of velcro tape that came with my board, so I've just been taking smaller and smaller squares off to put on new pedals. Some of them stick really well, some of them really don't at all. I should just spring for some new tape.

and now for something slighty different but velcro-oriented...

a while ago i was like "yeah, i'm gonna upgrade mah pedalboard". my pedalboard = a mixer console case. anyway - i bought this really great piece of carpet, glued it to the bottom of my case, waited over night and stuck my pedals to it - so i don't need to depend on those strips of shitty velcro (also it looks way better)

the first thing i noticed after a while is that i'm actually ripping the carpet from the case, because it sticks to the velcro hooks on my pedals too good  so i have to be careful while moving them

my question is - less velcro on my pedals? Stronger glue? help the glue with pins?

Image

please help me, i want to be awesome :)

ps: i'm actually glad when there's already velcro on the pedal... people are strange

I remember how years ago we used to drill holes in the board to attach the pedals in that with cable ties.

Probably more damaging in the long run to use cable ties, if they wear through the paint.

I don't use any fancy carpet technique, but I stapled the velcro to the bottom of my board, just in case. I don't want to be worried about removing the pedals "just right" because last time they pulled up the velcro with them -- I just wanna move them when I need to.

Also, industrial strength velcro is a pain in the ass when you're rearranging multiple pedals.

I don't know how to describe what I put inside my pedalboard - it's kind of like fuzzy felt? Either way it's quite thin. But I used super mega glue all over the back of it and so far it hasn't given me any problems. It might be that the thread of the carpet is being pulled from the underlay if your velcro is too strong, nothing can really stop that :(

 so You've tried it, too? Yeah, it can damage the painted enclosures. Not necessarily, but, it can happen. If they're not industrially powder coated and tough, tougher than old Marshall pedals, DOD or the BOSS pedals, You'd better be mindful of where and how You put the cables.

Velcro should go off easy enough for it to be the preferred way to attach the pedals to board. :thumb:

Oh also I dunno what the inside of that case is like...if it's wood or whatever, but making sure it has a nice, even surface helps a ton. Even if you have to spraypaint it to make it a smooth surface.

Pre-velcro'd makes me a happy man, although I can see it being a deterrent in the case that somebody's looking to get some minty fresh pedals and is keeping eventual re-sale in mind.

I always chalked it up to people not wanting to have to source those little rubber feet that you find on most booteek pedals.

For boss pedals,...I avoid putting velcro on the label,...just a thin strip on the top and bottom of the rubber pad on the bottom of the pedal.

Fuck resale,...but if I ever decide to list a pedal,...I always disclose velcro on the bottom along with whatever "issues" it may have. I don't know why but it's probably something like the Banana Monkey Water experiment.

http://paws.kettering.edu/~jhuggins/humor/banana.html

That's just the way it's always been on effects classys.
