What's with the Velcro?

Post by Monkeyboard »

In all sorts of sale threads the question: Does it have velcro? seems to arise an awful lot. I used to think this was probably because the velcro would be impossible to take off or something.

How come I seem to be able to pull strips of velcro off the back of pedals just fine without any damage? Do I have really shitty velcro? Is there another reason why you wouldn't want to buy a pedal because it has velcro?

I've been dying to know for a while now and I think I'll finally let the big noob in me out.

After years it can get kind of gross when you remove it. The adhesive they use now, and most pedals not being painted on the bottom, helps a bunch. I can remove mine too without any gunk on the pedal. Strangely, the velcro doesn't pull off the pedal when I try to remove the pedal from the board.

Seems more like a haggling point than anything.

I used to be militantly against velcro, I assumed getting it off would be like getting price tags on stuff from the store or this:

But it wasn't, and my pedals now live their lives happily with velcro on their backs.

For a collector I can see why they'd prefer to have it in as minty condition as possible, but otherwise...I guess if you're using a Bedroom Board you wouldn't want it. But then you can just remove it.

I dunno lol

Now what I hate though is cheap velcro  That shit that pedal train gives you is the worst :grumpy: and if you end up buying a few PTs you have tons of the stuff and there is always that time you need to do something for a gig and you are out of good velcro and you don't have time to buy more, so you say fuck it and use it... and that shit sticks better to it's self then the glue sticks to the pedals... or is it the glue sticks to the pedals but not the velcro :whateva:

:hello:

The only velcro I want is the sounds of my Fuzz approximating it... I've only ever traded for something not bought something with the cro... I put rubber feet on and move stuff around way to much to set it and forget it, but I see why people like it... Just not for me...

I love it when I get a pedal with velcro already on it. Saves me the effort and money.

I like to touch the hook side of velcro. It feels neat. So if the pedal has the hook side on it I would be pumped.

the only problems i've ever had with removing Velcro from pedals is that labels with manufacturing info/serial numbers/etc. get ruined, and that large rubberized bottom panels like the ones on newer Marshall boxes peel off with the Velcro. a little denatured alcohol takes the adhesive off. i have to Velcro stuff to the pedalboard to keep everything in position, because i cram a ton of stuff into a small area.
