Nice! :thumb: I really like your main bass tone too..what kind of rig are you running those pedals through?

Also, I didn't think you sounded like Bert...actually, your voice is uncannily similar to mine :erm: :idk: weird..

lulz. uncannily similar to yours recorded... or what you hear in your head? 'cause if it's the Internal Head Voice.... that's pleasntly creepy. in MY head? .... i'm a smoooooth sounding motherFUCKah.

i use a Tronographic (Erukus The Efx Pusher's fault) Rusty Box as my preamp and an SWR AmpLite at home into an Aggy GS112, at practice/shows a QSC GX-5 into some combinatikn of 2 GS112's and a GS212. i..... like 12's. i LOVE Aggy's 12's. peolle say there's a mid-scoop on the GS stuff, but i've always lurved the tones i get out of 'em.

thanks!

Similar to the way I sound recorded, the few times I've heard it anyway :idk:
Although, to be honest..the way I sound recorded and the way I sound 'to myself' really aren't too different, for whatever that's worth :hello: :p

Turn the iron temperature up. It looks like it's down at like 500. Put it at like 650-750. You'll make the solder joints faster and not melt the wires quite as bad. Also, strip just enough wire to get through the hole on the pot.

The thing that rotates inside those 16mm pots are plastic, so be careful when grounding to the pot. I just file down a corner of the pot and solder to that one small spot. You can see it in this gut shot: http://www.flickr.com/photos/51572438@N05/5448315087/

Also, is that plumbing flux? You wanna make sure to use rosin flux if you need extra flux.

Thanks SpunkleMyunkle,

Actually I'm quite receptive to constructive criticism and is mostly the reason why I'm documenting my progress (ain't the interwebz neato),...I know that Darrin is going to have some suggestions for me as well. I'm a sponge.

How accurately can I expect the numbering system on the dial to represent the actual temperature of the pencil? I've been keeping it around halfway (between 55 and 60).

Weller says it's accurate to 10 degrees. Dunno if that's true, or if it's after collaboration, but it'll be close enough. I know my new WD1002t doesn't seem noticeably different in temperature.

What gauge solder do you prefer?

.6mm (.025"). I think that's about 22 gauge?

I'm using .75,...I wonder if I should upsize.

This evening I got a little more practice this time working with resistors and pre-drilled IC board (from HatioShack).

I'm not really building anything,...just got a bunch of 33 ohm resistors in a row and soldered em up.

Took me like ten minutes after I got my iron setup.

Fuckin' Genz Benz Steamloafers are awesome and shit. The TB hype machine got it right for once.

That's pretty damn brilliant! Never seen it done that way, but it makes perfect sense. Soldering ground wires onto pots has always been my least favorite part of wiring anything - gonna try that next time.

Question for McSpunckle; when would you have a pot ground as opposed to a board ground? Is it only for certain builds? Or should it always be done?

At the suggest of Spunkle,...I've moved to a higher temp and much happier with the results. The bottom row of resistors is done with a higher temp (WES51 set to ~70 can I assume that's around 700 degrees?)

It would also seem that tinning the tip is not necessary,..neigh makes a mess out of the IC board as you can see on the pads on the adjacent row. I did my my best to heat up the lead from and let the solder flow with the lead in between the solder and the iron tip.

Tinning may be necessary for working with wires,...but not so much on ICBs and PCBs. Logical?

NOTE: this is just a copy and past from TB,..I am the author however :)

Also I big thanks to all the help and encouragement I've been receiving from here and abroad.

Maybe you're just applying a little too much solder to the tip when tinning. You want it to be on there like a film, just so the tip doesn't burn itself up over time :erm:

Try tinning it and then wiping it on the damp sponge quickly one time. Maybe you are already doing this though.

Also I want one of those fancy iron stations...

I tin the tip and "flick" off the excess.

Also,...today is the 1st day out at Dhuff's shop,...wish me luck.
