Gifts for my awesome bro (gifts on pg2, Klon discussion)

Post by mathias »

Ok ILF,

Here''s a challenge for you.

I have a little brother. He's turning 21 at the end of the month. He plays guitar and likes the BRUTALZ from those metal guys with the long hair, and lots of other music like Rush, Smashing Pumpkins, and Dire Straits. He plays an LTD neck-through superstrat of some sort, and a Crate V33 amp head. I don't think he has pedals right now, but once I did a Creamy Dreamer mod to a Russian Big Muff up for him.

He's been playing guitar and drums for years, but the last 4 years or so he was under doctor's orders not to play due to tendon damage he had. So now he's playing again.

I want to get him some stuff that he'd like. I have one pedal that I'm in the process of procuring, but other suggestsions definitely welcome. Doesn't have to be guitar-related at all. :joy:

Metalocalypse on DVD.
Cheap booze.
Strippers.

Those are the most metal gifts I could think of that you wouldn't be arrested for.

Are there any BRUTALZ shows that are happenin' in your area this month? You could get some tickets for that.

He lives in another state and I only see him a few times a year at this point.

Pretty sure where he lives they don't get good concerts -- there never were any when I was growing up there and I'm sure the recession has made it even more of a backwater.

This is a winner. Thank you!

More suggestions welcome. I think he is a little too serious for the Metalocalypse DVD, because I watch that & he never got any of the jokes I referenced.

I kind of wish the guitar lesson video that was an extra on the Metalocalypse DVD was a real, full length DVD you could buy.. Here's a link if you haven't seen it. It's awesome.

What kind of pricerange we talking here? Kayzer did a nice shootout of high-gain BROOTZ pedals not so long ago:

The Railhead TUA (shown in the vid) is pretty damn brutal, and not too pricey... $140 - $160 depending on whether it's etched or painted.
I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

That TUA is cool. The Dominator is pretty badass too.

Yeah, if I was a metal-loving younger brother, I'd want either of those for my 21st birthday! Hell, I kinda want them now.
