ever try to get your guitar to sound like a bouzouki or summin

1. retune to change the string tension to more closely resemble the instrument you're emulating. usually guitars sound closer to the Mediterranean instruments when they're detuned a bit.
2. (optional) use an extremely short delay OR tune adjacent strings to unison to simulate the doubled string course(s)
3. try different picks; typically Mediterranean and Arabic instruments use rather light picks to get that boing-y kind of attack you often hear.

if you have a 12-string, you're miles ahead here because you've already got doubled strings.
