philosophy experiments

Post by unownunown »

get high and do these!

http://www.philosophyexperiments.com/

you don't have to get high first though. they're pretty interesting, although i dislike the tone some of the responses are written in.

I'm not high, but these are definitely really interesting scenarios, despite the condescending prick responses to the choices I made. It told me I was overly emotional and irrational based on my choices. The responses are totally abusive relationship worthy.

aw, wtf

RAGE

Oh, and by the way, you have to answer either "Yes" or "No" here. I'm not going to tolerate any of this namby-pamby agnosticism. If you are an agnostic, pull yourself together, and then choose the option you're most inclined towards or even toss a coin if you must.

as a philosophy jerk, i'm just going to say that the options are poorly presented.

this is besides the fact that only two options are given. thats against the very NATURE of philosophy.

usually the popularity of a philosophy site is inversly proportionate to the quality.

consider:

If the Judeo-Christian God truly is omnpotent, can he create a stone too heavy for him to lift up?

It is a classic I entertained students with when a substitute teacher, for a week or so, years ago

that site is a perfect example of why i cannot stomach Western philosophy...that fucking condescending "i understand everything and i will now explain yourself to you" tone.

...errrrm :erm: isn't the Eastern typically by far more patronising :poke: or the authorities and their teaching just too Zen and/or intuitive to discuss the philosophical point of view. Only second to the religious authorities. That's at least what I have learned. Or at least, a view point to what I have learned - not the whole truth.

i'd say it ranges from annoyingly didactic at one end of the bell curve to annoyingly evanescent at the other. but there are certain things about Western philosophy that have always put me off. There's a level of, i'm sorry, intellectual wankery going on that i find unbearable, always too much theory, "How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?," volumes and volumes of impenetrable prose as compared to the slim volumes of the classics. In modern times, "philosophy" in the West has become largely decoupled from spirituality and "religion," which has reduced it to an intellectual pursuit at best and a pseudo-religion at worst. and, as IMO evidenced by that site, nowadays philosophy seems to exist largely as a means to deconstruct/undermine normal social morality and institutions to no visible positive purpose.
