Yeah, it's the ideal solution. You get to scoff at the d-bags that overpaid for slow Apple hardware, you can thumb your nose at the fucktards using Windows on their eMachines shitbox, and you can laugh at the people using Linux because *you* can run applications.

That is an interesting idea, but I've never built or done anything like that with computers. Like, not even installed ram. I do know how to update drivers, though! I would totally be up for learning how in a different situation, but I'm moving away from home next week and won't have access to a computer outside of work. So time is of the essence.

I'm leaning pretty heavily towards the iMac at the moment. I did the laptop + external HD thing in college, and it worked okay. It was kind of annoying to plug into my hard drive every time I wanted to listen to music or watch a movie. It seemed like there were way more wires involved. All the new iMacs come with wireless keyboards and mice, so it should look pretty neat. The reason I'm digging the iMac is that 1) I won't have a tv, so the big screen will be nice for movies/hulu/netflix/etc... I know I could bring a laptop into bed, but I can turn my computer to face my bed. 2) My iPhone gives the ability to do shit on the fly if I have to. Yeah, I can't really work on papers, but I'm not a student any more so I don't care. 3) It might make me read more. Seriously, if I can't bring my laptop everywhere with me, I might start reading again. This probably won't happen (see no. 2), but its nice to think about. 4) Slightly better specs. Specifically more HD space. i3 looks cool too. 5) Slightly less expensive. More money will be left over for fuzz.

Soo, I'm writing this from my new iMac! Just showed up this afternoon. I went the refurb route, got the nicer 21 incher and I'm loving it so far. We'll see if in a few weeks I'll regret not getting the laptop...
