Downloading as we speak! I'm more of a console gamer, but I've been wanting some games to play with on my laptop, these should occupy me for a while (got last year's too).

I just finished Braid.
I'm kinda sad.

I'd say, an echo really of what I gleaned from a blog about the game, that this game makes a case for video games as a form of art.
it became one of my favorite games and one of the deepest in that it gives so little

What do you dudes play Braid on?

I have no experience playing games on my Macbook Pro, and like to keep it game-free (I think I mentioned earlier that it's my DAW and I don't like a lot of extra shit on there), but Braid is a game I've wanted to play for quite a while.

Do you use your keyboard and is it worth it? Or do you have a controller?

I'm also bummed that Super Meat Boy will not be released on WiiWare, but I understand that there will be a Mac release of that as well.

Hey HT. I finished Braid last night. Wow, great game. It's amazing how such a minimal story can be so touching. Kinda like Portal or Shadow of the Colossus in that sense. Some of those puzzles were brooootal. I admit I had to cheat and look up a couple on Youtube.

Hey man! I played it on my Mac Book Pro via Steam. I just used the keyboard. Very simple controls. You only need the directional pad, a jump button, and a rewind time button. It's also a fairly small game. A bit over 250 mb. Definitely worth checking out. Judging by the demo I played on Xbox Arcade of Super Meat Boy, that would be a game I would need a controller for. The amount of precise reflexes needed for that game is silly. haha.

I know I could look this shit up, but it's easier to ask a human:

Do you download things from Steam, or do you like pay for them and steam them as you play? That thought never occurred to me, and I wonder if it's even possible. Probably.

I'll probably get Braid tonight. Xmas is over and I haven't been around any video gamage for like 4 days. Beers and time travel. YESSSSS.

Besides that, yeah, SMB looks like some precise shit. I wanted to try to master "I Wanna Be The Guy", but only had a keyboard for that, too, and I never made it past the second screen. I've been a controller dude since I was 6 when the NES came out.

Do you guys have any recommendations for VERY SIMPLE USB gamepads that don't have any more buttons than, say, a SNES controller?

C

p.s. You can play as a lot of dope indie characters in Super Meat Boy like Tim, Commander Video, a gooball, and the ninja from N+. And something from Cave Story.

Yeah, some things are just easier to find out by asking someone else instead of spending all day google'ing and wasting time that could be better used for watching gear demos. haha.

You buy and download through Steam. If I'm understanding correctly (I'm relatively new to Steam) their app can keep track of your game saves, so if you have the same game on 2 different computers you can pick up where you left off on the other. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that one. I haven't tried it yet, but I know it definitely keeps track of your gameplay info (time played, achievements unlocked, etc) so it makes sense that it could keep track of game-save data.

I was actually doing a bit of research myself on USB gamepads. I've got some emulators that I want to get back into again, and having a controller would actually motivate me to play those games of old. I have a buddy who has two of these (or something very similar)..... Image
and he seems to like them quite a bit. I've also heard of people using Xbox 360 controllers. Now that would be baller. I have another friend (who's kind of smart) and he built this converter box, so he can plug in an actual SNES controller into the USB jack on his laptop.

I find it slightly annoying that you have to boot Steam every time you want to play the game. I downloaded Braid, and I wanted to keep it on a separate harddrive because of my DAW paranoia, which is fine, but everytime I boot it up I have to go through all this like "Steam is not connected" kinda shit before I can play the game. It's a little annoying, but whatevers. Perhaps I should keep it on if it tracks my progress.

So far Braid has been really great. I love anything having to do with time travel, so it's right up my ass. The thing that really blew me away was having to wrap my head around time in 2-D. That's something that I've never ever considered. Meaning as you move forward, so does time, but only on a 2-D path. That's... that's hard to understand.

I love it when you go through the levels a few times and you're like "HUH?" and then you're like "OH!".

That's because you chose the steam download silly.

If you go to the bundle download page, underneath where it says "Click for your Steam, Desura..." you can choose your platform, and then just download the game onto your hardrive (those download links text to the little pictures).

The linear time/out of phase bits sure work the noggin!

Dahhhh... I didn't get the bundle because I'm weird. I just spent the five bones on Braid itself.

What do you mean by "Click for your Steam, Desura..." ? So can I like go back and download it directly to my harddrive? 'Cuz like the game is on there and I can play it when my internet is not on, but I have to go through all that shit. I'd like to just click it and have it launch right into the game... that's what I thought I was doing. Is there an option where I can go back and just download it straight? Because when Super Meat Boy comes out for Mac I wanna be able to do that. Those are really the only two like "indie" games that I wanna get that aren't available on WiiWare.

FUCK!

Nar. That doesn't look like my download page. There is no info on it, plus it's all grey.

Eh... I can still play the game, I'm just annoyed with the unnecessary pop-ups. Maybe I'll move it around some HDs.

Yeah, he didn't actually get the indie bundle. He just bought Braid right off of Steam.

Hey C! I'm about to hook you up. Do you have Leopard or Snow Leopard?

I would've jumped on this as I love procrastinating, especially with computer games, but my iBook is now 5.5 years. Like it barely plays youtube videos  The sound works, but the video can be choppy...

Ohhhh...  Reading would help.

I could host the file online so you can download it if need be.

Hey G.

I run Leopard 10.5.8 on my Macbook Pro.

So did I totally misunderstand what the hell I was doing when I bought it off Steam? I thought it was just a friggin' download service.
