Weird Old Movies

Post by Gearmond »

hokay gaiz, this thread is basically self explanitory.

I'm startig up a cult/art film series at the art department next semester, and I wanna know if you guys have any recommendations.

pretty much anything goes. I have all the standards; Jodorowsky, Tarkovsky, Bergman, etc. and a few treats (Saul Bass' only movie. thats right. the guy that did all the Bond opening sequences)

any recommendations, or just plain kooky movies you've seen?

Some Pier Paolo Pasolini films. If you're OK with nudity/sex/ricrazulousness, that is.

The Trial by Orson Welles

A strange story and I've always liked how the black and white imagery is almost in conflict with the story line about the guy not knowing what he did.

Harakiri

A good story of revenge from a strange starting point.

Suspira

I'm a sucker for Dario Argento movies, this one's my favorite.

I hope you're doing Hour of the Wolf by Bergman as well, and not just the Seventh Seal.

Suspira is fucking amazing. I love kung-fu/samurai movies so I'll recommend, although not really cult by definition: Shogun Assassin, 36th Chamber, Master Killer, Big Boss, Drunken Master, etc...
Also, I highly recommend OLDBOY
and, Let The Right One In (the original)

I've probably confused this movie for something else..but...that name sounds familiar... :?:
That's not that sort of legendary asian torture/horror movie is it?..

 I've probably got the wrong movie in mind...thinking of one I saw in a countdown of the scariest movies of all time..

Old Boy isn't really scary. You may be thinking of "Audition". It's on all sorts of lists like that.

Well maybe not 'scary' but was thinking more 'gross'...for extremely graphic/realistic-looking violence and stuff :erm:
