Music has never worked, purely because I try to stay awake to listen to it because it's so damn good. I NEED some sort of fan, tv with the volume down, electric hum, what have you to fall asleep. Silence is too...creepy.

Re: Soothing sounds....
I much undersign what's been said already by many: I love to go to sleep with things going on in the backround. As a child I lived by the biggest road running through the town. And on the long summertime road-trips, I just loved the sound of the rain pounding on the trailer roof. As a teenager I went to sleep with Venom on my headset. When I was a roadie, I could take naps between transit cases in the parking halls and maintenance corridors.
BUT now I can't sleep if there's any sounds coming from the childrens bedroom. Funny thing, isn't it, an unsuspected turn of events if any!
And it comes with under-eye bags, too.

Re: Soothing sounds....
Lately I can't go to sleep if it's dead silent because my heartbeat keeps me awake
I need something to distract me from it because secretly (not so secretly) I sometimes get paranoid about my anxiety returning. Or it bothers me how my heart beats faster/harder than I think it should when I'm not even doing anything.
Or I stay up for 3 hours thinking about stuff I haven't pondered in a while because most nights I try to drown it out with music or TV. It's productive though, positive or negative -- but I don't want to wake up as a zombie so I drown it out in an effort to get to sleep quickly...and then I don't think about stuff for a while again.
Go think about stuff.

Yeah the ringing too. It's not so bad most of the time, I only really notice it when it's uncomfortably silent. But on most nights I can be dead tired and still not able to sleep unless I have some kind of background noise.
