Soothing sounds....

Post by Mudfuzz »

I know this is a little odd but I find noises like fans, heaters ,rain, fridges, freeway noise easier to fall asleep to then total quiet :idk: Anyone else?

YUUUSSSS.

People think I'm crazy for this.
I've been sleeping in my basement for like a week because of the furnace in my house.
It's this old loud thing and I find the sound really relaxing.

I can't sleep in silence.

For me it's always been the sound of my computer running. I rarely turn mine off, and so I've become accustomed to the general fan noise and all of that, so much so to the point that if there's a power outage and my computer shuts down, I immediately wake up.

If it is too quiet, I will not sleep. I will just lay there and think until morning.

I usually have music playing or the TV on.

Trains... and fans when you get used to them are a bitch to sleep without.

Also what anime is your avatar from my friend showed me a video where one of the characters transforms her panties into a gun and that character turns her stockings into a sword to destroy a monster, i'm mildly interested now.

I grew up in Chicago, so total silence makes me nervous. when i lived in a trailer out in the country, i used to leave the radio on in the background tuned to the news station just loud enough i could hear it murmuring away in the background so i felt less lonely...i have scratch demos on cassette from those days where you can hear the radio in the background when the guitars fade. when i've lived in cities i always kept a window ajar in the bedroom to let the sounds in, as well as a breath of fresh air. nowadays i live hard by a creek which runs year-round, which takes care of the white-noise thing for me. i still leave the bedroom window cracked open at the head of the bed.

i suspect that if one's brain is accustomed to spending a lot of time processing heard material, it's not going to be entirely happy unless it's engaged in processing audio even if it's only doing it subconsciously. thus, the discomfort at total silence.

Indeed...I agree 100% on this. I've thought this for a long time, but never been ableto put it so well into words as you have. :thumb:

I usually fall asleep listening to music or the radio. I use headphones so it doesn't bother anyone else in the house, but I am worried that I will strangle myself in my sleep with the headphone wire some night.
