So i havent kept up with comic books....i used to be a big fan and spent my monies on them frequently but then i discovered music.....and pussy. So most of my zeal filtered through to anime and guitars....and pussy. When i stopped buying comics i was really into most of the vertigo shit like hellblazer...fables...lucifer....and transmet. Also cerebus, too much coffee man, madman, sin city etc etc. YES I LIKE SANDMAN AND YES I OWNED ISSUES OF GEN 13 AND STRANGERS IN PARADISE YOU CAN ALL FUCK OFF AND BITE ME. I recently went into a comic store cause i heard the extremist was getting the graphic novel treatment and fuck have i lost touch with the times. I remember in the 90s alot of groundbreaking shit was coming out and the current was really exciting....now im not saying good stuff isnt coming out now but it seems like the comic world has gone all rhino records cheesy nostalgic bullshit time...i mean fuck who really actually READS superman. Anyway somebody get me up to speed on whats up these days. IM LOOKING AT YOU LAWNCHAIR!

Luthor - the reason people still read superman
Batman - died, but is travelling through time somehow to get back. a couple good stand-alones too
Green Lantern - NOW IN 7 DIFFERENT FLAVORS, COLLECT 'EM ALL
Warren Ellis - nanobots, artificial intelligence, blah blah blah, also RED is released
Spiderman: Joe Quesada is still crapping all over it

a couple awesome one shot manga are released (A Drifting Life, Solanin, Not Simple, Gogo Monster), and some fucking unbelievable graphic novels too (Asterious Polyp, Stitches, etc. etc.).

personally I think the comics world now is REALLY interesting right now. novels are pushing narrative techniques (I recommend the Best of American Comics series, particularly the 2006 edition with Rabbithead). Manga is slowly getting back to being mostly high quality, and all of the upstart niche market companies are going by the wayside, so now companies have to be pickier with what they publish, and mainstream comic writing is pretty much at a high point... mostly DC, but earlier in the decade Marvel shone more.

Man i was over at this doodz house one time and he had a bunch of the graphics and i took noticed and asked him about them and he was all oh dude im a hug fan ive read those so many times blah blah blah and i mean the spine didnt even have a crease in it and had clearly not been read...so we drank till he passed out and i stole them and his splatter vinyl copy of sunn/boris. I have been getting into comic books when I collected when I was in my early teen years. I stopped and just recently got back into them.

What I have read thus far:

Goon - it has long been over but I love love me some Goon.

The blackest night - Now here is where the fan boy gets all going on, I heard that a villain was carrying around batman's skull and licking it on occasion and my reaction was "sir I want to read that"

all I can say is undead aquaman = awesome.

and that is as far as I have gotten so far.

Really, whenever you guys start threads on comics I just think Batman ect only interest so I stay out of them... I have tried to like US comics for a long time but they just don't resonate with me....

Koukaku Kidoutai ~ SHIROW Masamune [also known as Ghost in the shell ] Cyber Punk, Si-Fi, Cyber Punk post WW3, Cyber Punk, Cyber Punk. If you have watched the anime [and you all should, right now!, yes stop what you are doing and go watch it!] the manga will blow your mind.. not at first but it will when you realize it's all in there...

Elfen Lied ~ OKAMOTO Lynn: Si-fi, horror-ish great mix of dark and light sour and sweat moe and psychotic.

Hellsing ~ HIRANO Kouta: Vampires and Nazis do battle

Franken Fran ~ KIGITSU Katsuhisa: Horror, comedy. This alway makes me LOL hard, cool twisted shit!

Blue Drop [all series] ~ YOSHITOMI Akihito: Alien lesbians have taken over the earth... si-fi, yuri, post-apocalyptic earth...

Mirai Nikki ~ ESUNO Sakae: Horror, mindfuck, Parallel Universe, Play or Die Situation, Yandere. I find this very endearing.

Island ~ KOMI Naoshi: One shot, READ IT, post-apocalyptic earth type thing as well...

Goth ~ Otsuichi and OOIWA Kenji: Dark mystery type thing, really hart warming.

Yakuza Girl MASAKI Motonaga and YU-GO Okuma: Weird fucked up oddness... from what I remember...

Personant ~ KOMI Naoshi: post-apocalyptic earth type cyber puck like thing...

Nana to Kaoru ~ AMAZUME Ryuta: S&M
