I take mine black and sweet, and the secret is to get the sugar dissolved first.

Using a Cafetiere/French Press;

Boil water
Put 2 teaspoons of demerara sugar (fancy-pants organic no less) in mug
Pour a little hot water over the sugar, just enough to cover it and stir until dissolved
Put 1 scoop of coffee of choice into press
Pour hot water over coffee and gently stir
Leave to brew for 1-5 minutes
Gently pour coffee into mug. When it's nearly empty pull the press up and back down to wring out the last drops
Profit

And a white tea afterwards is always nice.
