I'm going to Levitation 2025 with my kiddos and we're gonna see Mastodon and The Sword on that Friday. Thinking about taking them to The Melvins in San Antonio and some other local shows around Central Texas this summer

just added: Bob Mould solo 9/26 here in Charlottesville, and Bela Fleck and the Flecktones also here on my birthday 12/16 which my wheelchair driver partner is coming to. i’m really surprised they’re having two shows here that i want to see.

i’ll tell you, it’s not easy at 68. the Mekons show left me toasted all day yesterday. medication for my back made me able to stand for most of the show, but it was the most of a mile walk back to the car after that did me in. honestly i think that it’s that i want it so bad that i push through the shit. i don’t know anyone else my age online or IRL that does anything near this. people at work are stunned.

i’m worried about September, though,..i have 5 shows in 15 days, with one in Manhattan, one in Asheville, two in DC, and one here. by the 26th i’m going to be a walking corpse.

i don’t know how long i can keep this up, but i’ll bloody well go down trying.

You and Bob Christgau, hauling it out to see the Mekons! (https://robertchristgau.substack.com/p/ ... the-mekons)

However much trouble it is to gather the band to play in the states, it's generally too much additional hassle to come over to Canada. I've seen Jon Langford in various guises here several times, but the Mekons assembled only once. (Though one as well by chance when we were both in Cleveland on the same night!)

Just saw an announcement for Bitchin Bajas coming to town in December, that's the first touring band that I've been really keen to see (and isn't outrageously expensive) for a while.

regarding my comments above, i’ve had a saying for many years now: “you’ve got to be willing to suffer for your fun.” nobody said being an elderly music freak was going to be easy or anything.

i’ve been struggling to get into some kind of decent physical condition, and the biggest reason other than not wanting to be a drag on my partner is so i can go to shows without being miserable. it was weird being able to stand for a whole show without horrible pain.

I saw Krallice on Saturday. I've always liked them, but somehow never saw them when they came around.

My band played with Cheer-Accident on Sunday. I've seen them before, but they played one of the craziest sets I have ever seen anyone play, basically not really stopping once they started, going for almost an hour. It seemed to be a cohesive whole, with a good bit of variation. A friend and former band mate was there, and said "You've heard of the Eagles of Death Metal? These guys are the Doobie Brothers of Zeuhl."

still buzzing from the Mekons show. they played a lot of their new record, and the songs sounded like, well, classic Mekons. i have “Sanctuary” stuck in my head and was noodling it on the Wandré last night. it was also nice that they were explicit about “things are fucked right now, and we’re here to create community through joy.” it helped to hear that for some reason. the last Ride tour felt like that, too, with material from the most recent record that shook a fist in this sick, sad world’s face.

i always feel like i should say “Eastwood Wandré” as if anyone would be so naive as to think i could afford a real one. i saw a rather nice one recently that was “only” about $8000, but that’s far beyond the bonds of funding and sensibility.

Thanks for the resonance, dub. It's a kind reminder that I should probably stop whining and turn into the wave... My depressed apathy is only 43. Yer only as old as ya drink? :omg:
