Gun Fever, Or... I never knew I was living in the ghetto.

What is it about guns that drives ppl wild? Last night, at about 4am, some douchbags left an afterhours bar near my house, walked to their car, shouting and laughing and decided that the only way they could make their night better would be to unload 11 bullets into my front yard. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?! To be honest, I don't think they were shooting at my house, per se. I think they shot them up into the air but that's potentially worse, cuz somebody could be walking along, minding their own business and get hit by a bullet falling from the sky!

I went out for a smoke about 40 mins after I heard them tear off down the street and there were cops all around my house, searching for casings and evidence. They found six. Who knows what happened to the other five...

I think it's time I move out of this area... about two months ago, I watched a group of asian kids chase a guy down an alley across the street from my front window. The next morning, the cops had cordoned off the area... it turns out that they had caught him and stabbed him. About 4 weeks ago, some guy walked into the restaurant next door to my house and shot somebody dead.

I'm becoming a little frightened to leave my house after dark or to come home at night after a gig.

During the day, there are crack heads walking into the alley beside my house to do their thing and as I live across teh street from a liquor store, there are always drunks fighting or sometimes sitting on my porch when I come out in the morning. I'm convinced that there's a coke den nearby (possibly beside the restaurant) cuz occasionally, a team of 6 - 10 cars will roll up, everybody piles out and walks into the alley at the side of my house and disappears into a back door that faces the gate for my backyard, only to reappear 30 mins later and drive off.

Jesus. What am I gonna do? I can't afford to move just yet but I don't think I can take much more of this. If only art were a real threat, then I could have a weapon to use against them.

Actually I was just kidding. Where they get there guns I dunno, but I know around here I can pick one up at any drughouse down the road. (and there are plenty of them to choose from)

But I'm fully convinced that if I was to get shot I really wouldn't bother calling the cops. The Pueblo County Sheriff's office is about a useful as tits on a bull. One murder trial that I had to sit in (as a jury member) was enough.

This is not a political statement of any kind, just a statement of fact. So please don't think I'm trying to make this a political argument. But, in a country where it is illegal to have a handgun, you are ensuring (by definition) that only criminals will have one.
