Vexovoid is a trip dude.
Put that on loud, late at night, with headphones and candlelight and a couple of heavy beers.
Nothing they've done before or since has grabbed me the way that one did.

I love all Portal - I was so happy to hear the news of a new album.D.o.S. wrote:Oooh interesting. I've never 'got' Portal, but they're very cool and always worth checking out.
It's not a new record, but Leatherface's Mush is getting a 30 year anniversary repress this summer. It's a perfect record. Very Excited. Preordered this morning.

As for Leatherface - Mush is a fucking PERFECT record. I saw them like three times on tour with Dillinger Four in 2001, I have some friends who are real fucking WILD maniacs and we saw them in Toronto and followed them around for a few gigs, I think Columbus and Cincinnati? Frankie Stubbs is the nicest guy, the dudes in D4 are the nicest guys and that was a hella great summer! Fuck that was twenty fucking years ago!!!
As for the reissue I have the CD and a great sounding boot LP I picked up a decade ago, I’ll have to grab this legit edition!

It’s a slow burner. Like it probably won’t floor you the first time but you’ll get that goddamned baked potato song stuck in your head?
When they went on tour with D4 it was supposed to be that Leatherface opened for D4 (who were the style at the time) but D4 traded headline sets with them each night out of respect. That was hella cool.
I haven’t kept up with the band at all but “Midwestern Songs of the Americas” is a real solid album. Somehow everyone liked that record, even the crusties.

Checking out that album now. Dillinger Four is a name I haven't heard in a long time, prime time for a redive. Song titles are on point.
Last note on Mush for now: I think my personal earworm on that album has always been Scheme of Things. Which I guess was actually on a different 7" originally but they've appended it to the album forever and it's just, so good.

Totally agree. First listen I was like, yeah guess this is pretty nice. Couple more listens and it jumps up to among the best recordsretinal orbita wrote:It’s a slow burner. Like it probably won’t floor you the first time but you’ll get that goddamned baked potato song stuck in your head?

If you were to describe it to someone “Motorhead meets Husker Du meets.... the pop sensibilities of.... The Police???” it doesn’t even sound like it would be that good.... I don’t think you could make a record like it now and it would be good, but somehow it just hits all the right notes. Full disclosure, I have never liked any other Leatherface like I do this record. And I’ve tried!!coldbrightsunlight wrote:Totally agree. First listen I was like, yeah guess this is pretty nice. Came here to say how the new Arabrot is killer, but I am late as usual.
I wasn't expecting to like it so much, it's really great
Will spin it tonight.

It definitely has pop sensibilities.
I can appreciate it for being I think good? But it was a chore to listen to for a dino like me.

Goroth somehow I feel like it wouldn’t be your jam. Like I don’t mean that in a negative way at all. It’s like the poppy record all punks could agree on but sort of like Maiden without the cool solos and without the attitude? It’s an enigma wrapped in a mystery. And yet it came out the same year as The Black Album?
Dowi I don’t know if it will live up to that description. I hope you love it!

Speaking of dinos, the new Dino is triumphant as always. Play it loud, and J's soulful solos will make you soar beyond both the ceiling within and without your skin.

I would say I like current Dinosaur Jr more than the “classic stuff” but this one feels like they phoned it in a bit. It’s not even bad, it’s just EXACTLY like the last few albums. Like I really felt like I had heard a few of the songs before.VREEEEVROOOOOW wrote:Speaking of dinos, the new Dino is triumphant as always. I don’t even think it’s that the music is the issue, it’s that the lyrics are.... EXACTLY the same as every other record? Like you got good tone but take a chance and branch out boys! Every song is “I did something bad but I hope we can work it out”? Write a song about some aliens or just jam it out a bit?
