Re: Alt wood finishes
I see this thread is back. Does anyone know any rub-on finishes besides tung oil and the Wudtone stuff? (Nothing wrong with Wudtone, just looking for alternatives.
Particularly in brighter colors — blues, greens, etc — rather than just wood stain colors.)

Re: Alt wood finishes
What kinds of finishes are they, though? Shellac, poly, something else?

Well... lately I've been messing with Driftwood Final Finish Liquid Wax for a Clear Satin Finish https://www.amazon.com/Driftwood-Finish ... 5c26cd5a14mathias wrote:I see this thread is back. And ColorTone Wipe-On Poly Finish https://www.stewmac.com/luthier-tools-a ... inish.html
Both are similar in that when they dry they don't give you the normal "wet" finish look like oil, lacquers, shellacs exedra.. Both work well over any coloring or dye and so far I haven't found where it reacts weird to any color or die like tung oil does with ColorTone Liquid Stains [I one time tried to do tung oil over green and the whole thing crystallized and I ended up having to sand it all off, re-dye and shoot nitro over it..]

For some reason I was thinking of “future floor finish” which is really acrylic clear coat — I had some in the past for finishing gaming miniatures (a short-lived hobby some long time ago for me, turns out I suck at painting fine details.)
