No doom lovers anymore?
I think I still like it. Got kinda hestitant once the sabbath stoner huge amps thing got too far. Kinda got turned off tuning low too but I think that's just cause I hate plying in drop. Listening to this split and yup, loveable doom

Re: No doom lovers anymore?
It isn’t that we don’t love doom. I think I personally just had ear fatigue from every band sounding the same and doing the same thing (sleep and/or electric wizard and/or slow sabbath cover band...)

^^^^
I see doom as having a specific sort of melodic sensibility. Think Sabbath etc. Ultimately blues / old school metal derived to a greater or lesser degree.
Sludge is just... sludgy. Not everything that's tuned low and slow is "doom"
I know this is getting a bit into the realm of subgenres are out of control

Re: No doom lovers anymore?
Yeah I agree. It gets tricky because Black Sabbath is so old and has influenced so many different kinds of music. The Melvins for example are clearly influenced by Sabbath but are in no way a doom band. For me there are two main branches of what I'd consider doom metal. The stoner doom branch from Sabbath to Sleep, Electric Wizard etc...and the doom METAL branch from Candlemass onward (funeral and death doom are pretty far removed from Sabbath but could trace their lineage back this way imo). But really...what the fuck do I know. I don't really care what people call anything this is just how I think about it.coldbrightsunlight wrote:^^^^

Re: No doom lovers anymore?
Yeah I agree with that assessment. There is doom and there is doom.
It's one of those "you know it when you hear it" things I guess.

All is Sabbath. Praise the almighty Sabbath for which there would be no doom, or metal let alone doom metal...
