That's interesting. I've never owned anything by Cusack, Keeley or JHS and don't have much of an idea how large those companies really are. Do some people boycott Cusack and Keeley on the basis that they work with JHS? Are there medium sized pedal manufacturers that are considered to be more ethical in terms of the companies they work with, wages they pay employees, etc? It would be cool if there was something along the lines of workers' co-op or something. The Eristic wrote:Money. Cusack OEMs several other brands, would assume Keeley does too given the size of his operation. They're making the pedals and/or parts to spec for JHS to market and mark up, probably via agreements for X number of units in Y time frame. They're also surely collecting licensing fees for the pre-existing IP stuff they use (like Cusack's analog + tap tempo design, relay-based true bypass, etc) and probably flat fees up front for any bespoke engineering/design work, but that could be arranged any number of ways. They're why JHS rapidly went from a pile of poorly-made generic drive clones to more complex stuff like tap tempo delays and the multi-circuit drives with custom PCBs. He managed to sucker enough of the P&W crowd long enough to be able pay actual engineers to design and build them.

That doesn't seem likely any longer in this day and age.coldbrightsunlight wrote:I think if you refused to watch or buy anything from somebody who had voted Tory you would be uh, very short on options and pretty hungry soon I imagine.I think we need some room for being friends with people with whom we disagree, while accepting there's a line where that stops

Lately? That has been how he's gotten away with so much shit for so long. Say anything critical of JHS on TGP, Facebook, Youtube, basically anywhere not here and the mob comes out to shut it down. Apparently, you just gotta tell people you're Jesus' personal pedal dude and they'll follow you into the gates of... well, take your pick.

I, personally, will purchase nothing from someone who's not a Jacobite!
Remember Culloden!

I'm in Manchester so there's not many Tory voters about, less that 100 people in my ward at the last local electioncoldbrightsunlight wrote:I think if you refused to watch or buy anything from somebody who had voted Tory you would be uh, very short on options and pretty hungry soon I imagine.I think we need some room for being friends with people with whom we disagree, while accepting there's a line where that stops

I only mentioned Anderton's/TPS to illustrate that I'm more likely to make assumptions about someone's political outlook if they're in the UK. I've no idea whether those assumptions are accurate though and would primarily avoid their videos because they're quite conservative in terms of their approach to music!![]()
I think ethical consumerism can make a bit of an impact but it doesn't really influence my choices much. When it comes to pedals there's often multiple companies producing similar designs so it should usually be possible to avoid a company that has a particularly bad reputation. I suppose a lot of people use their pedalboard to express their personality so it might be particularly important to them.

Yes. It is very hard. As the world gets smaller and smaller and things are made for companies by other companies that might be done in ways you don't agree with from politics to human rights to pollution to you hate shell pink and baby bluecoldbrightsunlight wrote:Just hard to be super great about it in every part of life, and particulary when you start making the criteria for avoiding businesses broader. I remember using the Harmony Central forum and being surprised that so many young men there were married with children - it took me a while to make the connection that many of them were evangelical Christians.

to where your electricity actually comes from.. and unless you live a very basic life where you have total control somehow...
you just got to do what you feel is right within your own means I guess..
