So I was still curious, and I asked on Youtube. The answer was cooler than I expected :thumb:

Subdecay:
"It uses high speed switching well above the audio range. Technically the signal is analog, but the switching is digital. The main advantage of this type of design is that it can cut volume to zero easily without hacks to avoid control voltage feed through like ticking, popping etc. Common problems with OTA & VCA based circuits."
"In a moment of unparalleled genius, Noel Parachute headed off this potential disaster by unplugging the microphone."

https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index ... /29327448/

"The oscillators are digitally controlled (DCOs) like a Juno, Jupiter, matrix 6, SynthEx or many other early to mid 80s synths. That's usually called "analog" at least in the synth world.
They output pure waveforms without the stepped quantization of a rompler or FM synth. Analog oscillators wouldn't be impossible, but then you have to manually tune the pedal.

Before MIDI things like LFOs and envelopes were analog. After MIDI that all started going digital even in analog synths. That's where the M3 goes digital to avoid the maintenance issues and make it all fit in a pedal that doesn't take up half your board." - Brian Marshall

Seriously, watched 3 videos and I dig the sounds. This might be the first synth-inspired pedal I really could find a use for.

That pedal sounded really cool - and I'm totally over synth pedals.

Anyone try the M3 yet? I'm curious about any overlap with the Octave Theory (one of my current faves for monophonic synthy noodles). Subdecay's M3 and WMD's Geiger Counter Pro are definitely on my Black Friday/Cyber Monday short list this year.
