Best Pre-Dirt Verb?
Anyone have recommendations? Bitquest or RV-3 would be my normal move but I want to branch out a bit. Also running a Disaster Transport Sr for bass/vi

Re: Best Pre-Dirt Verb?
Ghost Echo was always fun pre-dirt. Something splashy.
If you have some cash to spend, I think that Anasounds spring reverb would be amazing pushing some dirt. It has a "saturation" switch that overdrives it and I bet it would be great before something else. And it seems to have a pretty powerful eq too.

Re: Best Pre-Dirt Verb?
I was trying to get the ideal synth & dirt box pairing last summer, and I tried over 20 drives. My best results involved the lo-fi algorithm on the Empress. That sounded great in front of several fuzzes I used (Supro, Conquistador, SS/BS).
chain: synth > Empress > dirt
or synth > Rubberneck (Empress & dirt in the FX loop)
For guitar, I imagine you could enviable results without the Empress price tag---maybe a Space Race, Meteore, or a Paradox Arquitecto? I haven't played one in years, but I was also going to say that the EQD Ghost Echo could sit nicely in front of dirt.

Re: Best Pre-Dirt Verb?
I've got a few pre-dirt verbs. My favourite is probably RV-5 on modulate. Though not really verb, I also like PS-3's legendary mode 7 pre-dirt. Digiverb's gated verb works great both pre and post. (These days I use Digiverb post, because I use it post volume pedal to get the tail.)

I'd always loved Holy Grails pre dirt.

Re: Best Pre-Dirt Verb?
it technically has dirt in it pre and post, but the RM1n (and im assuming all other pedals similar to it) is great pre dirt. We are recording stuff currently and i have been using it with both dirt before and after it at the same time. The dirt inside the RM1n is great in its own right, but it shines even brighter with something either before or after it (or both before and after). Not cheap by any stretch, but sounds nuts.

me too! i like that mode set to unity-pitch (is that a thing? i mean it's not pitching the repeats up or down) for a sort of echo/reverb. it's a unique sound - and sounds especially great pre-dirt.VREEEEVROOOOOW wrote:Though not really verb, I also like PS-3's legendary mode 7 pre-dirt.

Re: Best Pre-Dirt Verb?
most digi verbs sound better into a light dirt/ampsim/preamp type pedal imo. problem is that some of my favourite pedals for that job, don't sound right with buffers/active pedals in front of them!

I'm also a big fan of the RM1N pre-dirt but I'm also really digging the dark world up front right now. I like the hall or spring setting mixed with a touch of the black setting so that it kinda drones a little under everything.

Re: Best Pre-Dirt Verb?
I think it might also depend on the dirt you’re using.
I’ve got a dark world going into a fuck and it’s really nice and has a ton of options for some added nuances to the sound. A lot of boards I see the dark world on have it somewhere near the front or middle of the chain for the way it interacts with dirt and other effects.
Also, for whatever this info is worth- for me, it beat out the bitquest reverb.

Re: Best Pre-Dirt Verb?
Biyang Tri-Verb is a really cheap reverb that if you put something loud into it (or just crank the Blend and Time knobs to maximum, Hall mode, A setting) it turns the signal into a blast of reverbed fuzz that swells in and out (somewhat uncontrollable... so either cool or a pain I guess). Not something you'd use all the time, but fun nonetheless.

Re: Best Pre-Dirt Verb?
hardwire verb. i dont think I've ever used it post dirt. I have found out using an analog delay (ad80) set to slapback is a cool sub for that effect. Been meaning to get my carbon copy fixed so i can have it pre dirt so i can get some modulation too and so i can use the maxon for gritty 60s echo
